The pictures of it look decent, but what exactly makes Ohio style different from most pizza? They don't know how to slice it. They cut it in squares to avoid this common conversation at Florida Pizza houses; "Would you like that cut in 6 or 8 slices?" "Uh, better make it 6, I don't think I can eat 8 slices." |

Florida pizza conversation is limited to "Yes, please" and "Thank You". Any pizza is good pizza. Slicing it into 87000 little squares just makes it wierd. |

Ohio style pizza is really flat, sounds funny, and drives slow in the left lane.

Not Ohio exclusive, but Mellow Mushroom is the best I've had. We have a local joint called Red Angel and that's my go to. I've never heard of "Ohio style," either, and I've been here all my life.

No such thing. Closest possible geographic candidate would be Detroit style (which is fucking glorious). It's a normal pizza with an extra thick crust prettending to be a "deep dish." No. You monumentally fail at being a Michigander. While it is essentially just a slightly modified Greek style pizza, there are key traits that distinguish it from other "deep dish" pizzas. First, the dough is lighter and more airy than most deep dish pizzas. A LOT of oil is added to the pan to essentially fry the crust. Second, the dough is often twice baked. Third, the sauce is simpler, brighter (made from crushed simmered tomatoes, not tomato paste or sauce), lots of fresh garlic, and heavy on Oregano, which is also often sprinkled on top (sometimes with other spices). Third the cheese goes on BEFORE the sauce, which is often applied AFTER baking, which takes away some of that "soggy" layer. The Cheese is nearly always a blend of Mozzarella and Wisconsin Brick Cheese, which has a sharp taste and is a KEY flavor. Fourth, cheese goes ALL the way to the edge, creating that heavenly, crispy, caramelized crunchy manna. Even blindfolded I could readily identify a proper Detroit style pizza from ANY other deep dish EVERY day of the week. Sorry your taste buds are retarded. ETA: Pizza Rock in Las Vegas has a fairly good clone of a Buddy's pizza that they call a "Detroit Red Top", but was crazy expensive. |

St. Louis style is best style Thin as a cracker with provel cheese. View Quote I've been to STL and had pizza from a few different places, and it all sucked. Only "St. Louis style" pizza I've ever had that was worth a fuck is Leo's here in Kansas City. They don't call it STL style, but they do use a thin crust and provel cheese. It's excellent, but I don't really think of it as pizza but rather a delicious, pizza-like fare. Nope, the best style of pizza is Detroit style pizza. |

Never heard of "Ohio style" pizza. Just crappy chain style pizza. |

Pisanello's in Bowling Green! Was not expecting to see that name appear in this thread. If I'm eating pizza in BG I'm not getting pizza, I'm getting stuffed breadsticks from Pollyeyes. Ohio pizza is damn good but for some reason doesn't have much standing in the Cleveland area as compared to other areas of the state. I couldn't even tell you my favorite Cleveland pizza place because there are so many options yet nothing really too unique. I know Donatos made a push in the Cleveland suburbs about 10 years ago and ended up closing most of their restaurants. |

I'll just leave this here. Ohio Valley-Style Pizza
Ohio has suffered a lot. Cleveland is, well, Cleveland, their whole population spends all their time trying to get out of there by going into space, Pennsylvania is always making fun of them, they have a rough lot. Making matters worse is that their attempt at making pizza, the Ohio Valley-style, seems to have been invented by a chef who wanted to find an elaborate way to turn pizza into a joke on an entire region. Like the delicious Detroit-style pizza, this is cooked in a square. Unlike that testament to grease and cooking-shit-in-industrial-parts-trays, these pizzas are filled with cold, uncooked toppings. That’s right, after the sauce (don’t get too exciting, it’s literally just stewed tomatoes), crust, and a tiny amount of base cheese is cooked, the rest of the cheese and additional toppings are sprinkled on top like a fucking lunchables. God. Dammit. To quote a native Ohio Valley…an, “Are we ahead of our time when it comes to making pizza, or are we just fucked up? I’m voting for the latter.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Link: https://affotd.com/2013/05/22/the-five-worst-regional-pizzas-in-america/ |
