But the worshippers of Moloch were not gross or primitive. They were members of a mature and polished civilization abounding in refinements and luxuries; they were probably far more civilized than the Romans. And Moloch was not a myth; or at any rate his meal was not a myth. These highly civilized people really met together to invoke the blessing of heaven on their empire by throwing hundreds of their infants into a large furnace. We can only realize the combination by imagining a number of Manchester merchants with chimneypot hats and mutton-chop whiskers, going to church every Sunday at eleven o'clock to see a baby roasted alive.

I think it was a big part. People don’t like being told what they can/can’t do, even if it’s a choice or situation they’re unlikely to participate in themselves.
My wife leans mostly right. She was going to vote for a whole bunch of blue candidates yesterday… but couldn’t find her license so she could vote… too bad, such a shame. Point is, I don’t have a big circle of friends and I know a bunch that were pissed about the Roe v. Wade thing. |

The message was “if you vote for a republican, your children will be taken from you and you will be powerless”. The legos fit in disturbing fashion. |

I never saw a single attack ad here that did not attack the Republican candidate for her stance on abortion. That was the sole message.
Exit polls revealed that "abortion" was the number one issue that motivated voters, second only to "the economy." Republican contender lost by less than 10K votes. Now I will brace for someone to call me pro-abortion for just neutrally stating three facts. |

Rubio won with the same margin that DeSantis had. Anti woke. Anti woke. Anti woke. That brings out the base and the moderates. The economy is important, but it's not going to excite a voting block like God, guns, and family. |

Anyone who claims to be pro-Constitution and the way our Constitutional Republic is intended to be governed, AND, cries like a bitch about Roe v. Wade being overturned, is a complete and utter idiot.
Regardless on how you feel about abortion, there is no Constitutional right to one, which delegates it back to the States, as intended. |

Of course I know that pro aborts were freaked about it. None of this is the point of the thread. People who say the midterms happened they way they happened because of the overturning of roe need to be able to answer the elementary school questions. I'm SURE Roe had impact on the midterms, but it's not something I think I (or you, or anyone else here) can quantify accurately. Lots of people vote for stupid reasons. I don't think science has figured out a way to quantify stupidity, only the results thereof. |

Roe v wade was overturned, which motivated liberal women to vote in the midterms at greater numbers than they otherwise would have, and caused some moderate leaning women to not vote for some GOP candidates in the numbers they otherwise would have, both of which had an effect on tight races. Combined with a host of other factors, we therefore did badly in the midterms.

What often determines races isn't what's important to the core voters of each party (which is the majority of voters). Rather, it's about what is important to the much smaller number of swing voters and independents in the middle. So OVERALL it might not have been an important issue, but if it was an important issue to that particular group, then it could very much be decisive. |
