This was the bay next door that had the steel reactive target.(pic from two weeks ago at carbine shoot) 
Steel is set-up minimum 10yds from where the shooter engages it. I was an RO/SO until I started bleeding. Each squad has an RO/SO and a back-up RO/SO if at all possible. Sometimes. To the right of stage one is the 100yd rifle range where others shoot while we have our competition. They'll do rapid fire with their AR's, AK's, .22's and you'll hear bullets whizzing over your head in bay one.

talking from experience here.
that will either stay in place for ever, or start to work its way out over time. I had a piece of shrapnel move two inches in about two years time and poked through the skin. popped it like a zit, out it came, slapped on a band aid. |

One butterfly bandaid and an ice pack. Stitches make it look like a girl scar, whereas letting it heal au'natural would give you some pimp "I am all that is man!" scarring.
Plus leaving the schrapnel in would give TSA a legitimate reason to crotch grab you. |
