We're a glorified ambulance service. Our biggest contribution in the communities we serve is keeping home insurance low. Years ago some embody did the math for our department. We cost the homeowner an average of about $40 per year. Home owners insurance in our district averaged $70 per month. A nearby community with no fire protection home insurance rates were up near $200 per month so we save you money by just sitting there.

Of course if you're trapped in a car wreck and you're seriously injured I'm sure you'll turn us away when we show up to cut you out. Just call your buddy and tell him to come out with a set of wrenches and a sawzall.

Think about where we would be without the men and women who are willing to clean up garbage and shit, any waste really.  It's a shame those folks get paid the least.

It's pure Arfcom to start a post that looks at professions negatively.  Rather than "what professions do you see as noble" we get "overrated noble professions".

I know it's all edgy and popular around here to shit on anything and everything else folks will lose their man-card, but give it a bit of a rest.

Of course. And even the negative threads get fucked up by schmoes.

"Overrated noble professions" gets responses including jobs that aren't professions and/or professions that aren't considered particularly noble. Just a "who do you hate, by job" thread

I've worked with a lot of engineers over the years, and the ones who seemed to enjoy their work professed to have pursued the job to learn and build things. They just genuinely enjoyed creating something substantial out of a mere idea. They were (and are) usually fun to work with.

The honest-to-God answer is:  All of them.

The only truly Noble professions are the ones who get the least respect:

Car Mechanics, Plumbers (the honest ones)
The Painters, Roofers, HVAC installers, Garbage men.. You know..the people that make Civilized society possible for the rest of us.
God bless them all.

I had this eppifiny the other day:  Thank God I have a well paid specialized skill, because I could never make a good living in the trades.   It's hard, physical work.  Every single day.  I've always been a do it yourselfer, but I would never be able to get it done fast enough to make a good living.

Also, the Military.  Combat Arms trigger pullers are Nobel.
