I agree, the 80s cool factor is why I love them but it ends there. I always had you MP5s as a kid and now I have a real one. I rule. But the folks that go around shitting on every other system out there cause much MP5 make no sense. It’s the equivalent of an over complicated AK. Bent sheet metal. No more no less.

Cost/profit ratio. Compared to modern CNC-machined guns, the MP5 is very labor-intensive. Labor that is dying out, since very few possess the knowledge and skillset to teach it these days.

Due to this, the MP5 is an expensive gun, whereas the UMP is dirt cheap to produce. Better profit margin for HK to discontinue the MP5 and sell UMP's.

It sucks ass compared to the MP5... But both are being phased out and replaced with compact 5.56 rifles, so it's kindof a moot point. Very few are going for a dedicated SMG or PCC when a 10" 5.56 or 6" 300Blk can be had cheaper, and with far superior performance.

Controls aren't complicated. As far as ergos, I love it. Barrel rise is essentially nonexistent as well as recoil. You can dump a mag in auto at distant and stay in the 5 ring easily. Rapid shooting in semi is ridiculously easy to keep on target. And yes, its quite smooth. Last round hold open would be nice.

That's pretty cool. But I should have added at a reasonable price point for an upper.
Lol, I mean I'm not expecting $299 daily deal uppers or anything silly. I'd really like under $750, but would go to maybe $1000 for a quality upper if it was really nice.
$2600 for a pistol build is a bit steep for me.
I know, I'll wish in one hand and go be poor elsewhere

I agree with those who state this came too late. Right now you can spend about $2300 for a real HK or just under $1700 for a PTR. Both are known to be reliable and durable. How is PSA going to compete? They if the price is close you'd be foolish not to go with a brand with a longer track record in stamped roller delayed rifles. So PSA will have to complete on price. But can they make a good gun for a price low enough to get people's attention? My guess is no.

1) My prediction is that they're teaming with Magpul for this, or they're at least involved. I'll assume that most will be sold with a Magpul trigger housing and forearm. Just makes sense as a cost saving measure and not having to deal with manufacturers also making parts for companies like PTR and HKParts.

2) Probably have more limited release of "Classic" style with a traditional trigger housing and/or traditional wide MP5 forearm.

3) Step up dream would be Magpul MP5 mags in 9mm with BHO and BHO on PSA5, but compatible with standard MP5 mags but BHO won't work with them.

@PalmettoStateArmory how'd I do? 50% off coupon for one if #1 is right???
