I've made 550-cord key-rings before but I think the bracelets are a bit on the gay looking side. Why would a man want to wear a bracelet in the first place except maybe one of the old POW/MIA bracelets? I must have missed the acceptable male fashion memo on bracelets. Dude, it's automatically HSLD super Tier 1 manly because it's PARACORD. Duh. when you get right down to it, it's the same reason I wear Oakley gloves - because my character on Call of Duty has them. I have to cover a tattoo for work. I usually alternate watch/bracelet. Now if I could figure out how to weave a watch face into my cord.... Seriously, google Stormdrane Paracord ... He has tutorials on this very thing. His tutorials are very thirough. |

If one were so inclined, you could have a nice little side business making bracelets, monkey-fists, lanyards, slings...and other things from para cord. On-line sales would be a given, but I would think lots of gun stores, public markets, sporting goods stores, mil-surplus stores, local gun shows would be good targets for sales and yield a decent return on investment. Harder than you think... |

I just can't bring myself to wear a bracelet even though I see the utility in them.
My wedding ring and my watch are enough for me. |

Got 100 buckles on the way from eBay (shit, $16 shipped, might as well get a bunch!) and some paracord from paracord.com.
I'm definitely going to do a sling for the Saiga. Probably double up the core, even though the paracord can handle the weight of the rifle. Then do a King Cobra weave over it. Likely do the first layer in tan and the outer layer in black since the rifle is black. Also got a little blue/white cord so I can make a couple pulls for my backpack, and a couple bracelets. |
|
I just tried to make a couple yesterday. Pretty cool, but I have to figure out how to measure properly. Also, one hand seems to be smaller than the other!

Take a cloth measuring tape and measure it comfy. then I add 1 in to mine to get proper fit (from out side of female end of buckle, to the inside of the male part [where the "shaft" starts]. If you dont have a cloth tape tape a scrap piece of cord and measure it to where its comfy and where the ends pass each other take a sharpie an mark across both ends. Lay it out flat and sure a regular tape measure and measure from mark to mark. Add the inch as described above. |

Maybe it's just me but the only 550 bracelet I wore was made and given to me by Recon Marines for the work I did with them. I wouldn't feel right making one myself and wearing it around town. I often get asked if I was Recon (because of the bracelet) and I'm very quick to tell the truth about how I obtained my bracelet. It was an honor to have been given that bracelet. Yup, its just you The majority of people don't know the traditions we have with 550 cord wraps on paddles we give to people. It is something to be honored but I don't look down on people who make bracelets for themselves. If you can search, there are people selling these bracelets for $90....... If you figure out who's buying them for $90, please let me know. Me too. I've seen them at stores in BOULDER for $10 and thought that they were marked up about $7 too much. I'm talking Pearl st. stores too.....so if someone was going to try to assrape some foux-hippies on a piece of paracord, it would be happening in Boulder. |

Got my paracord in from paracord.com. Let me tell ya, I've had paracord before, from WalMart and the like.... and the WalMart stuff is just... loose and flabby compared to the stuff I got from paracord.com. The new stuff I got is tighter weaved, and just looks more... QUALITY.
I gotta go to work in a bit, so I'll get started on a couple bracelets tomorrow, and will post pics. I'll get a few of the WalMart cord vs the good stuff I got. Quoted:

I made this simple one which is my favorite currently. http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb358/sabroso1/661c9397.jpg It's just an in and out weave between two elastic hair ties so there are no buckles or knot or anything. http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb358/sabroso1/843b87c7.jpg http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb358/sabroso1/f4c474a2.jpg I just made one for my wife a few weeks back with that double weave. Looks neat. I do the triple-wide weave for mine. I have done both the triple-wide and the cobra weave and I prefer the triple wide one personally. I just picked up some of that Woodland paracord earlier today actually. Stopped off at the Army/Navy store prepared to be disappointed but came back with 100ft of nice paracord in a color I didn't know existed! |

If you're cooking along, you can make an 8 footer in a day, but my hands aren't toughened up yet
Depending on my ambition, 2 days is usual for me to completely finish the plaiting, handle pattern, and turk's head knots. It's a great pleasure hearing all your hard work come alive! Give it try sometime! |

They were buying the 100 ft. cords by the time I got in line. BTW, they had non-windowed PMags for $14.95..pretty good deal imo. |

They really got to me..."type 3 nylon" is always the first thing to come into my head when I see 550 cord.

What kind of weaves are there for these? I am going to go after work to the surplus store and get some paracord. My daughters have been making bracelets with a little kit they have, but not with paracord. I am going to go buy three colors and some clasps after work.
I see there is a Cobra weave and I will probably get them started doing that. I am going to give them out to family and friends. |
