I am active duty mil currently an instructor, on friday one of my students asked why the flag was lowered to half staff. I said that who ever had raised it muast have confused the 6th with the 7th.
One of the LT's who over heard the question spoke up and said that it was because of Mandela. My first thought was " thats impossible, he isnt American". Then I remembered the NPR report I heard on my way in about how Obama was inspired by Mandela and that feeling of rage swept my body. I'm not one to post the FBO stuff, because Thats what the majority of my country wanted and because at the end of the day he us my boss and what sort of professional would I be if I did that. While Nelson Mandela made a shity place marginally less shity which is a major accomplishment for anywhere in Africa, at the end of the day he wasnt an American. This cheapens the value of flying the flag at half staff. |

Your definition of civilized is odd. For example, a civilized country doesn't force majority of its citizens into fake countries and make them carry around passports for internal travel. A civilized country doesn't strip the political rights of certain segments of their society for bigoted and racist reasons. etc etc etc |
