In the panic scene over the fake shark fin, one of the boys with the fin grew up to become police chief where the movie was filmed.

And while it's uncredited, if you pay attention, John Ritter flips over the yellow raft in that panic.

Well of course they died due to the atomic bomb tests!  None of them smoked and of course a simple glance at the horrendous cancer rates for St George UT long time residents (where TC was filmed) shows their cancer rates are only exceeded by the cancer rates due to the Three Mile Island accident!  Geez, I thought everyone knew this!

Gotta see real evidence of this to believe it.  Sounds like the plot to Close Encounters with the Third Grade.

Not that I would read those.

Escape From New York was filmed in East St. Louis because it already looks like that.

Saved money not building a set.

Is that true?

I've been in East St. Louis late at night, so I shouldn't even question you.

It's true. I don't recommend going there at night.

@TheYellowThing Centreville is less than a mile away from East St. Louis.

It would make sense if they filmed there too.

Die Hard was actually book 2 of a series.

The first book was The Detective and was made into a movie staring Frank Sinatra.

So you could say Frank Sinatra was the first person to play John McClain.

if you ever wondered how Hans Gruber could earn 20% on bonds it's because it was from the 70s when interest rates were high.

I read somewhere once (not sure if it's true) that the studio was obligated to offer the role of John McClane in Die Hard to Frank Sinatra, when he was in his 70s .

Truth.  I met him in person. If you notice, he always tried to hide his right hand in the series and movies.  Possibly the one time you can sort of make out that he's missing a finger is in Star Trek III:  The Search for Spock.  He hands Kirk some parts and you can kind of make out that his right hand "ain't quite right."

The amount of money studios pay for locations is insane. Parts of the movie "The men who stare at goats" was filmed at my former employer's main business building. They found a great building, then revamped the main set with false walls. This  set was the place where the inside office shots were made. Remember where Stephen Lang tried to walk through the wall? That's the place.

The large bay window overlooks Washington, DC. The actual view through that window is a red brick building and its breezeway. They hung a huge blue screen curtain over the other building and put some potted live trees just outside the window.

I spoke to the set director about the cost of stuff. He'd budgeted $300,000 for filming for one week at this set... where there were perhaps ten minutes of action! And at that, it was far cheaper than the cost of a sound stage- which wasn't available for ANY cost at the time! (Albuquerque has a burgeoning film industry; it's where "Breaking Bad" was filmed.)

They also parked three semis and a couple of 27' Uhaul trucks in the parking lot to haul all their stuff- cameras, sound stuff, cables, etc. Frank Symptom's rule of thumb: for every person in front of the camera, there are AT LEAST five behind it!

Joe (2013) Starring Nicholas Cage

2nd lead actor, Gary Poulter, plays a homeless drunk and abusive father in this dark southern drama. It's a film about hard southern life w/ evil subject matter.

In reality Gary was a former actor turned homeless.  The director literally pulled him off the streets and tried to sober him up to play a role directly mimicking his lifestyle.  Unfortunately Gary died shortly before the film premiered along side a river embankment near a homeless camp.  His death oddly mimics a death in the film.

Joe is personally one of my favorite films.  It's a slow burn but what's so interesting (besides Gary) is that the director David Gordon Green cast many regular average everyday people into supporting roles.  Also, it's Cages best film performance of his career IMO.

Check it out if you have the chance. It's worth the watch.

I used to know the guy who owned the brown van from "my moms a serial killer" or what ever the title was.

They approached him when he was at one of the location when they where scouting it to use his van. The idea was it was crappy enough to be some kids van. They had to put new tires, brakes, seat belts, windshield and a few other parts on it to make it safe to drive. In other words, it was crappy enough to be some kids van.

OK, not really about the movie, more about actors on the set. (as seen in the documentary "behind the planet of the apes)

During the filming of The Planet of the Apes all the crew and actors would have lunch in the canteen they set up.  They would all mix and mingle indiscriminately.

Once they got into their makeup, the Apes would congregate with apes, the Chimps would congregate with other chimps, and the orangutans would hang out with other orangutans.
Weird that varied and disparate actors would self-segregate into their assumed "races". Nobody planned it that way, it just happened organically.

The  first scene of the Clint Eastwood movie "Hang 'Em High" was filmed about a mile from my childhood home.  I recognize the mountains in the background.

The actual area where the actors were filmed  doesn't look anything like it did in the movie.  River  levees were added to the area years after the movie was made.
