My experience with m240 Bravo's tells me you have too little gas. It should run on the lowest setting with ease. Ince carbon builds up you can crank it out to 2 and 3 and it should still run. Just dont run a clean gun on the highest setting. View Quote I'm almost wondering if the spring that runs the belt over is weak. If the belt would just love over a smidgen or so during cycling it would be fine |

It does hand cycle rounds fine as long as I pull and release the charging handle

This is usually a gas issue but I'd check for carrier bind or piston bind first. View Quote Is there a size gas port that is "standard" on the 16" guns? |

Honestly it all feels pretty smooth. I did clip the spring for the striker a bit. It was insanely long. I haven't had any ignition issues however. Is there a size gas port that is "standard" on the 16" guns? View Quote |

Not really. I know on my gun I took the stock port size, and then opened from there till it ran, and then went one more size up. I can't remember the size though and have since sold all of those. View Quote I'll increase it and see what happens |

Chase.
For fuck's sake... listen to the prophet. Buy FAL. Have issues. Buy RPD. Have issues. Need second reciever. John Moses Browning is angry with you. You must appease him with an offering of his design for your next project. |

Waiting.
What's a build put you back? I may be able to buy a 249 in a couple years but this might be ok till then. Wish I picked up an rpk from PSA for $400 |

Pretty sure it works!
Relocating to a different spot to get a rough zero and let off a belt |

It's doing alot better
Still having an occasional hangup. But I can atleast get out some volleys of fire with it. May need just a little more gas |

Open it one number bit(ie #21, #20,etc) at a time till it runs on the lowest setting. Then open it up one more. View Quote I'm gunna try and shoot it a bit more first but I think it needs just a tiny bit more gas. Doing tremendously better than it was yesterday with a jump in gas port. |

Im going to knock the gas port up a wee bit more and then leave it be for a bit and see how it does.
Big thanks to those who gave me their wisdom on this journey, especially Tim for putting up with my stupid IMs through out the duration of this thread. Thanks a lot to all of you. |

Wish I picked up an rpk from PSA for $400 View Quote If I wouldn't of fucked it up heres what a rough price would be 700 for kit 400 for receiver 200 for barrel(chrome lined ) 400 for conversion. There was a few miscellaneous charges for go/no go gauges, drill bits, and the such but honestly this build didn't require too much that I didn't have laying around. A smaller manual press would have been beneficial for the pins and such. The best find in the shop to get this together was a piece of angle iron which helped tremendously in getting the accessories into place on the new barrel. You guys do not want to know how I turned down the barrel without a lathe either Lots of lessons learned. I almost feel I should build another one as I know it would go together a bit cleaner. But I doubt Ill do that. Im really happy with how it turned out. A few of the pin holes are a wee bit off center, but other than that it looks pretty good. Once I finish the tuning it should be a fun gun. |

That's not really that bad of total cost. I'd probably try to do all the machine work myself and screw up a couple of everything, including the parts kit Hell I would almost pay that for a non-functional wall hangar.

Man, I never knew the drums on an RPD moved that much. Then again, I guess it doesn't matter since it's a beltfed.

Well I guess this concludes this build unless something comes up. I figure a belt without a hitch means shes in good shape though. Thanks again to everyone. http://i.imgur.com/crSM6E0h.jpg View Quote Seriously though well done, the rpd is a very cool gun and congrats on building one! |

I do have one question for you guys that own a RPD
On the short versions like mine do you chop the bipod legs? I assume the full size version had some sort of provision to store the bipod legs, but now with the barrel shorter I assume that cannot work. So do you cut them to rig them up or just leave them be? |
