After being on this rock 50 years, one thing I've noticed is that when people do blatantly wrong shit that negatively effects other people, they are 90% of the time so invested in and blinded to the impact of their behavior that they will push back anyway.  And so it is almost always useless to just try to have the conversation, unless you are documenting it to prove that you were reasonable (for your court appearance later) before going full ham.

Example: unleashed or annoying animals.  When was the last time you confronted someone over their free roaming dog?  Even one of my best friends comes UNGLUED when you suggest he should keep his dog from running on the neighbor's land or it might get shot.  And he is, in every single other way, a great guy.

Every person who allows their dog to run free and upset, annoy, sometimes attack or bite strange people or other animals AUTOMATICALLY defends their lack of responsibility, like it's normal and perfectly fine even though it's clearly not.  And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I have a neighbor that moved in and brought a 6 foot tall dog.  That dog started getting up on top of our brick wall between properties and taunting my dogs, who then would understandably go batshit crazy.  I tried to talk to him man to man over the fence and he just didn't get that it was not acceptable.  So I wrote him a letter and suggested we split the cost of adding a row of bricks to our joint fence (it wasn't quite tall enough according to our HOA standards anyway).  Instead, the guy dug a trench the entire length of the fence!  Now our fence is shifting......because he couldn't be neighborly about it.  Same neighbor lets that dog bark continuously for half an hour at a time and now just got ANOTHER rat dog that barks at us continuously.  Guy is invested that this stuff is PERFECTLY FINE and I'm the asshole for objecting to it.

I would bet $1000 that if OP had confronted the real estate lady, she would have pushed back in exactly the same way anyway.  "But they are in the right of way so it's legal!"  Or "but I know the property owner and they said it was ok!"  etc. etc.  Who wants to get in a stupid and senseless argument with someone who is clearly in the wrong??  Fuck that noise.  Let her do her thing, then throw the shit away!

Whether or not she knew she was posting (an absolutely ridiculous number of) signs on private property when she did it, she knew it was private property after she looked up the owner.  And then what did she do?  Call, apologize, and ask politely for the signs back?  No, she threatened to file criminal charges against him.

One of the reasons why I yank those signs.  Many times realtors abandon their cheap open house signs for me to clean up.  This lot had over 13 open house signs before I noticed it.  I usually mow the lawn there about once every 3-4 weeks and in that time, I got a violation notice from the City of Houston.  BTW, the fence is not mine, but the neighbors.
