Mid 50s Guy here checking in. Noticed my hairline in the last year has been slowly receding .
Does anyone have any positive experience with scalp treatments or pills? I’m not looking to really grow hair just slow down what’s going on. Also looking for any side effects |
|
I am taking finasteride to shrink my prostate. Hope it does what it says it does.
|
|
Neither. Just shave it off.
Doesn’t one of those shrink your dick? |
|
Let the sides grow long and do a swami wrap on top. No one will know.
|
|
|
Just so you know, both are toxic.
Just wear your age with pride. Or plugs if you’re that worried about it. |

You’re 50, embrace the loss, shave and enjoy life!
there is no free ride when it comes to taking any medication. 18Z50 |

Do both topically, you will have great results. Add ketoconazole shampoo.

your hair was receding 20 years ago, but your barbers didn't have the heart to tell you
it's past time, just shave |
|
|
Rogaine doesn't work, it only slows down the loss and doesn't regrow.
Save your money and shave that shit. |
|
Spironolactone, hopefully you like boobs because you'll develop a pair. I've taken it for eight years and my testosterone levels are 3 ng/dl as a result.

I dunno about finasteride, but minoxidil doesn't work on receding hairlines. It basically only works on the apex of the scalp/top of the head (having a bald spot).
|
|
I have a had great luck with finesteride. Almost 20 years, no side effects, hair stopped thinning.

I don’t think either one of those medications are effective in men over the age of 45. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember that being true. Not some thing that the manufacturers share with the public. Also, Rogaine or minoxidil only regrows hair on the top of the head, not the hairline. But again, you’re throwing money down a hole if the studies show that they only work in younger men.

If you aren't ready to go full-blown cue ball, just start with a buzz cut.
Number 1 or 2 guard on the clippers and let 'er rip. The money you save on BS drugs and futile haircuts will be significant. |
|
I'm similarly cursed but a few years younger. I decided to go no guard clippers as I can't hack a razor yet.

Come to terms that you’re aging and go with it. My hair migrated from my head to my face and back.

Minoxidil may possibly slow hair loss at the temples, but it will not regrow the hair already lost. It pretty much only works on the crown.

Just shave it off. Then get the big bag of Tootsie Pops. Telly Savalas was a big chick magnet.

I you want to maintain the ability to have erections I’d stay the hell away from finasteride.

Let it be, rather than take drugs for it.
If you can't let it go slowly, shave it. No matter what, don't do a comb-over. They are obvious, and lame. |

Mid-50's lol. Op, some of us have been dealing with this at a way younger age. You got lucky to make it that long. 1-guard or shave it and move on with your life. Maybe get a boat.

OP here. Thanks for The many responses.
I don’t want you guys to get the opinion that I am going bald. I just noticed that my forehead hair is slowly going up. I have a full head of hair everywhere else zero bolt spot. If there is a medicine there with limited side effects that I can take that will keep my hair exactly where it is then I would be happy. I don’t have problems with boners. |
|
God only created so many perfect heads,
The rest he covered in hair. I suggest a razor since no one else mentioned it. |

Just bought a t-blade trimmer which is sort of between razor and trimmer, going to test it out tonight. Shaving my head looks kind of weird. 95% of it is stubble and people ask why I shave it that close. I point out I'm going bald and they look at me weird. But just shave it somehow, much rather do that than take some medicine that probably doesn't work. I look at it like rich people all over the world are bald, they would have the ability to change it I'd think. They either don't give a shit or it's impossible |
|
Combo of both, you can get them topically to avoid side effects.

Wanna look 40? Shave your head and grow a goatee.
Wanna look 60? Do something else. Plenty of businesses are gonna line up to take your money. |
