To be fair, you're also a dick because of the things you post on ARFCOM. I know. That's why my profile says "Resident PITA". Nice personal attack there. If you want to call me a fag, just go ahead and say it. Why would that be a personal attack? Are you a homophobe? Well he did make a racist remark in the OP. |

No. You're supposed to say "I made reservations at a place I thought you'd love back in December for Mother's Day. And then take them there. I guess I just think I'd put a bit more thought into a gift than a place virtually anyone can go on any given night. Or showing up and saying "Hey, why don't we go out to eat? Where do y'all wanna get your grub on at?" Yeah... that doesn't work with them. If they don't get to pick the restaurant we don't go. I stopped questioning it years ago. |

You're half right. Servers don't have to BE tipped and you don't HAVE to tip. That said, stiffing a server because of a personal issue that you had with another patron that had nothing to do with the level of service she provided is rude a dickhead move. Quoted:

LY - this should also tell your future in-laws something about your character, which I frankly find lacking. |

So, OP, what sort of Asian buffet was it? Chinese? Korean? Japanese? Pan-Asian (AKA Chinese or Koreans pretending to be Japanese or Thai)? What sort of entrees did they offer? Were there any gems? Most of those types of buffets are pretty gross, but there are a few - I'll stress a few - that are decent and have some standout entrees amongst the standard Sysco slop. It was Chinese with some Japanese food. |

I find it amazing how you always seem to have an answer in which you are completely absolved of any responsibility for your life circumstances. It's a nifty skill you've developed there. |

Quoted: My first thought is - this kid is gonna cry as soon as we sit down. Sure enough - 30 seconds into us sitting down, WAHHHHHHHHHHHH WAHHHHHH SCREAM GAHHHHHH Perhaps you have appearance or personal hygiene issues? And they're chronic, as it seems you've experienced this before. Adults will usually cut you a break, but children haven't developed tact yet. The manager should have resolved the issue by telling you to go be ugly somewhere else.

Man so much has changed since I was a kid. Parents don't parent anymore.
I know a couple parents personally who basically lets society, teachers, and the school raise their children. They are "buddies" not parents, buys them whatever they want and they are free to express and do what they want. Sometimes it's actually if you see the things they let their kids do. "Oh you're playing dodge ball and ducking behind the neighbors car, how cute!" If I did those things back in the way, my ass would be glowing brighter than the sun

Trust me the police around here will come and they will lock your ass up. You need to rethink your attitude before you learn some life lessons the hard way. So I went to a buffet yesterday for mother's day with my soon-to-be in-laws... They seated us next to a family of "respectable and definitely legal citizens" and I notice a 3 year old kid in a booster seat. My first thought is - this kid is gonna cry as soon as we sit down. Sure enough - 30 seconds into us sitting down, WAHHHHHHHHHHHH WAHHHHHH SCREAM GAHHHHHH Parents made no attempt to quiet the kid down. No apology. No taking Junior outside for awhile. They let the kid scream out straight for 10 minutes. We picked up our dishes and moved to a different table and complained to the manager, who made no attempt to speak with the family of unruly child. Family gave us nasty looks the rest of the evening. Their child continued to scream for the entire 1.5 hours we were there. Numerous other families proceeded to complain, yet the manager refused to address the situation or even walk in the vicinity of the problem family. Check comes. Paid the bill. Left no tip. Fuck stupid family and stupid restaurant owners. If I was there myself I would have walked out on the tab, but don't want to make a bad impression on soon-to-be in-laws. So what does GD do under these circumstances? Go to a louder restaurant !!!

I'm extremely patient with crying kids. I had a couple of them myself once. And one of those was a particularly miserable child until we got him some help. My wife? She'd probably get involved and wind up playing with the kid all evening. She's that way. It's easy to get a kid to shut up when you can bribe and spoil your way into their good graces. Of course this is teaching a behavior that the parents might not appreciate but life is full of little challenges. I have yet to see a toddler that can't be shut up with a bag of Cheetos and a can of Mountain Dew. Little kids love her. |

Depends on the type of place. If it's a Golden Corral strap on the feed bag kind of place, you get what you get.
If it's a chucky cheezes, expect that shit. Casual dining let em scream and deal with it. Fine dining, ask the manager to move you to a table where you can enjoy your meal, and if they can't, go elsewhere. If you have ordered and received food, pay for it. If it's not out yet, pay for what you've gotten. If the alarm demon is switched on when you get there, don't even order. |

What the fuck did you expect on a Mother's Day buffet. Fucking dumbass.
And a fucking buffet? Really? Classy. .
I hate this shit too. Thats why we don't go out on Mother's Day anymore. And we have kids. We make mom lunch or dinner on Mother's Day. We so take her out other weekends to family places. You had a shitty experience due to shitty planning and lack of critical thought so you tried to make this a libertarian learning moment for them? Guess what......it was really a libertarian learning experience for you......and you failed. And your still failing.
I remember when CT had good trolls.

| If the kid started crying 30 seconds after you sat down you had time to leave before you ordered or ate anything. Either leave if its a problem or suck it up butter cup. That being said, as a fatherbof a 19 month old, if it was my kid myself or my wife would have taken the kid outside or paid and left |

Restaurant made absolutely zero effort to correct the situation on their part. Maybe when their servers complain to the owners as well they will finally take the hint and vet their customer base a little better. |

| A pretty amazing post, actually. OP has the right to the dining experience of his choice, the family doesn't. OP has the right to steal sodas if decides its ok. OP takes up 1.5 hors of valuable dining space, all the while fuming about a small child. OP decides whether behavior of small child is appropriate, family doesn't. OP thinks family owes him a personal apology because of upset child. It sounds like OP would do well in a FSA government controlled community. And they call it Big Ugly Fat Folk Eating Together (BUFFET) for a reason! It looks like the child wasn't crying when OP came in, but started when OP began glaring at the kid. There's the reason the kid started crying in the first place, OP frightened him. |

Nope. It IS the business's problem. Not my place to call out other customer's in their place of business. I don't make the rules there. I complain to the owner or manager. If I'm not happy, I leave. It's a personal issue with another customer, not a company issue. And if I'm not going to talk to the family myself I don't expect someone else to do it for me. I've seen too many retail complaint stories where customers are offended because the employee didn't step in to be the police - either with a loud table, or to shut the other party up if there was an argument. I've seen too many retail complaint stories where customers are offended because they employee DID step in to ask a customer to keep the noise down or control their children. In both cases the common theme is that the employee became the scapegoat for issues customers had with other customers. That's just two CUSTOMERS who have a disagreement, and one of them tries to "win" by demanding the manager step in and be the behavior-police. Or rather... having a personal opinion against another paying customer, and then trying to make that opinion "more valid" by getting a manager or employee to enforce said opinion against the customer. Don't like another customer? Fine. Leave if you want, or ask the other customer to shut their kids up. But... don't be surprised if the other customer tells you off cos... well they can. They're not employees after all so they don't owe you anything. Which is why some people would rather make an employee tell the other customer instead, vs ... doing their own confrontation. I'm not getting into a potential physical altercation over your special snowflake. No you just expected the employees to instead.
