Don't want to get sued for libel. It's much more costly than 2 sodas. Oh come off it. You won't get sued if you even mention what kind of place it is. It was a $20pp Asian buffet. You sit down, they take drink orders then you can go get food. Pay at the end. |

So I went to a buffet yesterday for mother's day with my soon-to-be in-laws... They seated us next to a family of "respectable and definitely legal citizens" and I notice a 3 year old kid in a booster seat. My first thought is - this kid is gonna cry as soon as we sit down. Sure enough - 30 seconds into us sitting down, WAHHHHHHHHHHHH WAHHHHHH SCREAM GAHHHHHH Parents made no attempt to quiet the kid down. No apology. No taking Junior outside for awhile. They let the kid scream out straight for 10 minutes. We picked up our dishes and moved to a different table and complained to the manager, who made no attempt to speak with the family of unruly child. Family gave us nasty looks the rest of the evening. Their child continued to scream for the entire 1.5 hours we were there. Numerous other families proceeded to complain, yet the manager refused to address the situation or even walk in the vicinity of the problem family. Check comes. Paid the bill. Left no tip. Fuck stupid family and stupid restaurant owners. If I was there myself I would have walked out on the tab, but don't want to make a bad impression on soon-to-be in-laws. So what does GD do under these circumstances? I would've taken my time and finished my meal. Screaming kids don't bother me. |

I am NOT obligated to tip. |

Over 90% of Asian diners never leave tips at any sort of Asian buffet. Were the whiny kids Asian? |

Letting your kid scream for 1.5 hours and annoy the fuck out of everyone else in my mind is a worse crime than a restaurant losing the $.30 cents over two poured sodas. That's my two sense. Would I use this as an opportunity to eat a giant ass free meal? No. Would I have bounced after a couple minutes if by myself? Yes. Quoted:

I'm really curious how you reconcile your "if it ain't nailed down" view of commerce with your self-proclaimed libertarianism. If it means that much to the restaurant, they can have a contract I sign up front stating the terms and conditions of their restaurant eating experience. If I don't like the terms, I won't eat there. If I like the terms I will. And if I agreed to them, I would be obliged to adhere. I don't recall agreeing to anything up front, however. People who can't be trusted to do the right thing in the absence of civil and criminal repercussions are one of the reasons government is bigger than it needs to be. Yes. Well, that solves this fight, right there. I've found the problem. You're not smart enough to operate a dictionary which is why you think you won't be prosecuted for the non-crime of theft but think bad parents are committing the crime of "loitering with an unruly child." Got it. Maybe come back when you can discern the difference between "annoying" and "criminal." |

Server isn't entitled to jack shit. I am NOT obligated to tip. You're half right. Servers don't have to BE tipped and you don't HAVE to tip. That said, stiffing a server because of a personal issue that you had with another patron that had nothing to do with the level of service she provided is rude. |

Quoted: Certain cultures don't see an issue with unruly children and as such are rude as hell when it comes to being in public with children. Not racist at all. Just the truth. I've seen the same from white trash. I don't think that it's race specific. Trash is trash, and every race/ethnic group has its trash.

Wow we got a big spender here. TWENTY DOLLARS PER PERSON? Oh the outrage. Did you forget to make reservations at a decent place so you decided to go to the Asian place down the road?
Try again when you go to a nice place and have a bad experience. Parents bring their kids to Chilis and Applebees because they know there are going to be other loud onboxious kids there as well. |

If you want something sort of buffet-like, find a good Chinese restaurant that offers dim sum carts on Sundays. You'll get to dine surrounded by nothing but polite Asians. The occasional white yuppie foodie family with kids that address their parents by their first names might show up sometimes, but those types are generally just mildly offensive rather than loud and obnoxious. |

Don't go to family resturants if you can't deal with familes; the only time it's annoying as if it's an expensive place catering mostly to adults, (Mortans/Capital Grill/Ruth's Chris/tetc.) if it bugged you so much, you should have said something to the family but no need to be a dick about it. Real douchy move to walk out on your drinks and as others have said, it's not the waitresses fault. I swear, some of you need to go live in the hills as hermits and leave the rest of us alone..... |

ETA: *after having a word with management about the problem, not saying just walk out on the bill. That's just theft and management will do nothing about it in the long run. |

Yeah, I know when I'm celebrating with my in-laws for a holiday, the first thing that pops into my head is "Chinese buffet." You know, really show mom you love her. You get bonus points if you haven't even married into the family, yet. |

Mother's Day? At a buffet style restaurant? Yeah, of course there's going to be screaming children. Or any other day for that matter. Buffet's aren't normally what one would call "fine dining." Also, I'm not sure why there was any great concern about a tip at a buffet anyway. It's not like anyone takes your order or serves your food. |

It's not like anyone takes your order or serves your food. Well, that depends on the buffet. I've been to a couple that were nothing short of spectacular. But they were in resort areas of Florida and were decidedly not Chinese buffets. I tip at buffets because someone is still clearing my plates and bringing drinks. |

So I went to a buffet yesterday for mother's day I read to there and reread the title. You went to a buffet and wanted a romantic quiet meal? In other news, sometimes you just have a hell of a time controlling a kid that is upset. If the parent is actively trying to make it better or going outside with the kid, give them a break. |

So, OP, what sort of Asian buffet was it? Chinese? Korean? Japanese? Pan-Asian (AKA Chinese or Koreans pretending to be Japanese or Thai)?
What sort of entrees did they offer? Were there any gems? Most of those types of buffets are pretty gross, but there are a few - I'll stress a few - that are decent and have some standout entrees amongst the standard Sysco slop. |

No. You're supposed to say "I made reservations at a place I thought you'd love back in December for Mother's Day. And then take them there. I guess I just think I'd put a bit more thought into a gift than a place virtually anyone can go on any given night. Or showing up and saying "Hey, why don't we go out to eat? Where do y'all wanna get your grub on at?" |
