Harkleroad wind turbine
I used to see this all the time when I was 4 and 5 years old. We lived and petaluma and my grandparents lived in Novato. We drove 101 all the time and you could see it from the road. My parents said it was a spaceship, and that was cool as fuck to 4-yeer-old me. Harkleroad built some pretty strange and cool houses. |

Not too far from me on highway 30 outside of St Louis. Guy built a large Bender on the side of the road. Apparently he bought a old semi tanker trailer to build a larger one with and the county said no. Not my pic.

First thing that comes to mind is driving to work one day a couple years ago, and seeing a roadkill deer with a "get well soon" balloon tied to a leg.
I got to laughing so hard I had to pull over. |

The Cessna from License to Kill used to sit next to the highway in the FL Keys, Sugarloaf Key specifically. I took a picture with the original Opie next to it around 10 years ago. It's gone now, don't know what they did with it.
Also used to be a big bat tower at the end of the road the plane sat next to. It blew down in the hurricane in 2017. We drove up here from North Carolina in 2017. Saw lots of roadside oddity tourist trap type stuff. There was a big pink elephant somewhere in either Wisconsin or Minnesota my wife and daughter couldn't get enough of. They got stickers, key chains, T-Shirts, a coffee mug, desktop resin replica, and about 1000 pictures of it. In Canada I liked the sign post forest in Watson Lake and the DC-3 weather vane in Whitehorse. The DC-3 actually scared the crap out of us, it's mounted up on a pole and turns into the wind on its own but we didn't know that. We stopped to go to the transportation museum there and were getting a picture in front of it, had our backs to it and when wind picked up the shadow started moving and it freaked us out. |
