At high altitude it's difficult at best to get jet fuel to burn at ambient atmospheric pressure. Coating it with jet fuel isn't good for the aerodynamics and might obscure cameras or other sensors but it's very unlikely to catch fire.

I'm interested in getting to the truth.  What does this "Assurance" you speak of look like?   Did we break it by allowing the Baltic countries to join NATO?

What gave the USA the right to make this assurance on behalf of all other NATO members?   Did we discuss it with them first?   Its been decades man.  Surely this is all well-documented history full of primary source citations and endless rigorous commentary, right?    It must be, since we've seemingly openly broken this "assurance" repeatedly for decades.   My god man, how did I miss the international debacle of this century?   Please, open my eyes.

Putin did sign an agreement to drop all claims of territory in Ukraine and respect its borders and sovereignty. He planned all along to break that agreement. When Putin invaded Crimea any thought of not allowing new nations to join NATO went out the window and justly so.

yea, it wasnt to catch it on fire.  its very hard to light jet fuel on fire.  im sure it was just to "piss" on the sensors

It doesn't matter if they intended to piss in the Drone or light it on fire. It was deliberate and provoking.  The subsequent maneuver behind a pusher prop is not unintended either. First, they blind it, then ram it. In all of aviation, nothing they did was unintentional, esp. in international air space.

Why are we the only one who is supposed to live up to an agreement? Budapest anyone?

Besides, the shoot down was really payback for some chinee weather balloons maybe?

Plus, Russians and Chechen troops have been in Ukraine since at least 2015 as verified in the movie Debaltseve on YouTube by UA troops serving in the area. Multiple jet attacks and border incursions for a long time.

The current conflict is not just something that happened last year.

I'm saying the only thing remotely close to what you're describing was a talking point during negotiations that was not even agreed to and never made it into any treaty that Russia, the USA, or any of the former SSRs agreed to.

What does this assurance even look like?  "Won't push east."   What does that even mean?  Is the official agreement worded that loosely?   That sounds less like an assurance and more like a drunken Russian propagandists talking point.   Probably because that's exactly what it is.

No official treaty, just promises.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Canada Raymond Seitz saying:  “We made it clear to the Soviet Union, in the 2+4 talks, as well as in other negotiations that we do not intend to benefit from the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Eastern Europe,”

“NATO should not expand to the east, either officially or unofficially.”
A British representative also mentions the existence of a “general agreement” that membership of NATO for eastern European countries is “unacceptable.”

West German diplomat Juergen Hrobog said of the 1991 agreement: “We had made it clear during the 2+4 negotiations that we would not extend NATO beyond the Elbe. We could not therefore offer Poland and others membership in NATO.”
The minutes later clarified he was referring to the Oder River, the boundary between East Germany and Poland. Hrobog further noted that West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher had agreed with this position as well.

The document was found in the UK National Archives by Joshua Shifrinson, a political science professor at Boston University in the US. It had been marked “Secret” but was declassified at some point.

An American asset was intentionally destroyed in international waters and this is all you have to say?
Speaks volumes about your patriotism.

An incident of a  type that that was pretty common during the cold war.  We didn’t go kinetic then, why do you want to go kinetic now? You remember the Cold War, yes?

No, a military aircraft getting intentionally destroyed in international airspace was *not* pretty common during the Cold War. US Recon aircraft flying into hostile airspace, yes. International airspace, no.

https://www.sw.propwashgang.org/shootdown_list.html

Did you actually read that list? It supports precisely what I said.

Skimmed it, yes.
A lot of actions over international water, including shoot downs on both sides.

Yep.  Although I meant all harrasment incidents--harassment, bumping, damage, interfering with normal operations, etc on land, air, and sea--certainly there were plenty of in-air incidents as the list clearly shows.

That is the problem of those who rise to power, they are not bound by normal peoples’ sense of honor.  Most of us see our word as our bond, and feel bad when we lie, they just don’t.

Nothing unusual with that. Drones, and before them manned aircraft, standing off in international airspace to observe a conflict is and was pretty common as are "freedom of navigation exercises" in the Black Sea.  I posted a video earlier in the thread from the 1980's where a Soviet ship rammed a US Naval vessel that was conducting a freedom of navigation exercise in the Black Sea.  It has to be done periodically otherwise countries can use precident to claim large swaths of navagable waters.

There has been an ongoing debate in the Operational Law and International Law communities of the military at the Headquarters level on the legal protections and obligations when it comes to unmanned systems.

They made an agreement to keep NATO off Russian borders and broke it. Everything will change in an instant when they have to reinstate the Draft because NO ONE, especially the woke generation, wants to go fight and die for Ukraine. They will have to press gang them off the streets but that won’t end well

I was reading more about the assurances we gave about not one foot east etc etc...

Very interesting we have been breaking promises for a long time in the US....we don't like to talk about that but damn it amazes me anyone even acts like they trust us.

What?  There are literally dozens of assorted treaties (signed by the Russian Empire, the USSR and now the Russian Federation) that explicitly allow for freedom of navigation for both ships and aircraft in international waters and airspace.  The definitions for both are well established, and there really is no concept of adverse possession in international law that applies here.

When Putin invaded Crimea any thought of not allowing new nations to join NATO went out the window and justly so.

Agreed, though many had joined before Crimea was invaded.

Because they understood that not doing so would almost guarantee a future Russian invasion.

Yes, that is one possibility.
One that will never be known after current events.

You know how Ukebros tell me I'm stuck in Ukraine cause I promised to protect then in exchange for them surrendering nukes?

I would argue since I have maxed out social security contributions for 20 years you better pay my ass back.

I agree it isn't the federal government role to get involved in retirement.  I also think it isn't our governments job to do regime change or fuck with other countries democratically elected governments when we don't like then.  But here we are.

You’re stuck in Ukraine?

Weird. That must be whats keeping you from
Going to the US border

Maybe his call sign should be Spartan 6 Delta.  No way we are talking with 6 Actual.

My home is listed as the US. Always has.   Can you put 6 Actual on? His / her / it’s Delta element isn’t  cutting it.

It certainly is different when actual people are not involved.

Well the problem with Gorby’s recollection is that the contemporaneous notes taken at the meeting that were recently declassified at the NSA archives actual say we did NATO expansion and what Gorby Heard

“The Russians must have some assurance that if, for example, the Polish Government left the Warsaw Pact one day, they would not join NATO the next.” (See Document 2)
