I'm getting too old and rickety to ridge run in Red Dawn fashion in battle rattle. Would likely just grab the old 10-22, my hiking pack and as much ammo and mags as i could walk with. I figure dead squirrels would be use #1. Fighting off desperate raiders would not be something I''d come out of unscathed.
A .22 rifle is nothing to scoff at, either. I've never met anyone who volunteered to be shot by one. A semiauto 22 can be formidable. Deer can be killed by a .22. Saw that first-hand as a kid. I was staying at a friend's ranch, back in TX. A doe got in their vegetable garden. My friend's dad chopped it down with an old Marlin 60. She never left the garden. We dined on her backstraps for supper. They rest went in the smokehouse. Not humane or ethical, but this is a SHTF scenario. |
