Jumping into this discussion now.  Just finished "Round One". And now I am "Starborn".

Reset sucks, but let's see how this goes.

Bethesda = Buggy

So I will say that I have experienced very very few issues in Starfield.  Some typical Bethesda Creation Engine stuff, sure.   But it is very playable and the few issues I have run into were in no way game breaking.

Overall I think they did a very nice job.

To be honest, I think this is the least buggy Bethesda game I can remember. That goes back a ways.

Agree.  I have played countless Bethesda games, and this one is by far the most expansive and yet the lest buggy from lunch I have experienced.

That said, I have still seen some classic game engine issues and those make me laugh.

Yep, the game is massive and less buggy than even regular Skyrim.

I just found possibly the single greatest side quest in Starfield. I'll put how to start it in spoiler tags and won't include any other details. Hopefully, among all the STARs you can visit, this plants a SEED of interest.

Well I just ran into a new and weird bug. Landed in Akila City on the On The Run mission. Going to the Rock to give Shadid more encrypted stuff to work on, but every entrance to the Rock is a black nothingness I can't walked through or interact with. Map says Shadid and all of my waypoints for Akila City are basically out on a mountain way outside the city. What I quick travel there, I'm at the landing pad right outside the city entrance. Map shows the same far away in the mountains thing.

Side note: the spaceship technician isn't in his hut, and I can't find him. The trade kiosk is gone, too. Flew around trying to reverse the bug figuring it may be connected to my new ship I purchased from the Crimson Fleet. Technician is gone at New Atlantis, too. But the trade terminal is still there.

I have been really enjoying this game. I'm more than 30 hours in. But this is making me wish they would push some kind of update/fix. I can't move forward on anything in Akila City. I can't really move forward on anything.

If I load my character from a lot of hours ago (somehow lost a bunch of saves because of some Xbox cloud problem yesterday), everything is where it should be. But come on

You guys who are modding your games, perhaps you can illuminate me on something.

Is there a mod that adds helpful stuff to the interface? Mainly, is there a mod that shows you the system/planet/location as well as level of the quests in your mission list? I'm starting to chafe under the downright obnoxious mission menu... I have like twenty "activities" quests and every single one only says something like "talk to Santa" or "talk to Elvis" and it gets really tiring having to hit the "show location" thing to figure out where these assholes are only to see it ping a system a million miles away that is like level 60 which results in a Lana nooooooooope from me, only to go fishing with the next one to see where the hell it is.

I also really really wish the loot menu would show you what a thing was without going into the full menu. There are so many weapons in this game with names that sound like feminine hygrine products and Japanese snack foods. When I'm looting someone I'll see something like three items... ammo, something I assume is their weapon, and something I assume is their clothes. But when all the game shows you is "4.8cm depleated dikfers", "Shasta", and "Pirate Assless Chaps" I always wind up grabbing the two first things and dropping the weapon when I find out its some goofy energy pistol or something I don't want.

I've run into a few bugs of a similar nature - can't talk to quest giver; turn in a quest and I'm suddenly hostile to everyone (that one was hilarious, I thought I was being setup as part of the quest); etc.

I found that entering and exiting my ship clears these issues ~80% of the time, which is similar to saving and then reloading. For the couple ship-specific issues I ran in to, temporarily changing my home ship seems to work. Another option is restarting the game.

I haven't run into anything that I haven't been able to clear with one of the above tricks.

I tried all that. Nothing. I'm just worried that if I go do other things, I won't be able to fix this issue without going way back to an old save. So I'm just sorta stuck.

I don't know what the command on console is, but if you press "R" on a body, it will take you to an inventory screen where you can see details of everything before you loot it.

The only mod I'm running is StarUI https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/773?tab=description

I saw StarUI but it looks like it only affects the inventory.

I also know about hitting R to go into the full menu that shows you the details, I just want the ability to see at a glance in the pop up loot menu what things are. Just displaying only their names is a little annoying, particularly when the colored rare items have ridiculously long names that don't properly display in the quick menu. All you see is "Nuclear Automatic Calibrated Cushioned Inside Out Ra... ***" and you have no idea what it actually is at a glance and you have to enter the full menu to find out its a shitty helmet.

ETA Just hit level 20 after 45 hours. All side stuff and exploring. Made it to the Lodge, said hey, and peaced out never to return! Finally built up my ship to be formidable. Got the outpost squared away with some cheats console dev. Made the containers and warehouse hold 1000kg... Still need to make a few but it's nice to not need 20 of each type.

Highly recommend adding this to your custom ini. It changes the boost to hold-to-boost instead of the 1-second that seems too much or not enough

Haven't seen much for bugs in my 45 hours. Saw some people walking without a suit the first day but never again. Seeing some leaches that aren't aggro'd here and there. Also had a hired gun with a shotgun that'd keep looping its shooting sound but she's using a P90 now.

Anyone know the difference between Defensive and Wary?

Perhaps you misunderstood- I’m very interested in this game, and will almost surely play it.  I’m just disappointed in the initial deliveries from Bethesda’s last few games (and 76 was garbage).  Therefore, I’m going to hold off a little while before I jump in.  Im following progress because I will be playing at some point.

I haven’t criticized a single person who is playing it.  I don’t know why you’re so sensitive about it.

So this is a screenshot of the map over Akila City. The red circle is where Akila Ciry should be it's where my ship is parked and where my character is standing. My character is on the player landing pad right outside the front gate of Akila City.

The yellow circle is where the map says Akila City is located. The waypoints are all various individuals for Akila City quests.

I find nothing if I walk all the way out there. If I try to fast travel there, it just puts me on the player landing pad. And the map says I'm in the same place as it does on the screenshot.

Really only posting this to flesh out what I'm experiencing.

I maxed out Spacesuit Design so I could get to Special Projects 1, which lets me craft the final weapon mods.

I don't think it's worth it - at least before level 80ish (I'm 50). The juice just isn't worth the squeeze, and my character could have seen greater improvement if I put those last 5 points elsewhere. The last weapon mods give about a 10% boost to a weapon's DPS (for the few weapons that can use the mod...), so it's not nothing, just not worth 5 skill points.

The spacesuit/gear mods are okay, but not worth the skill investment. I have a bit more carrying capacity, a little damage mitigation, and a slow regeneration outside of combat. Decent stuff, but not mind blowing. Solid B tier.

FWIW, 4/4 weapon engineering is awesome and definitely top tier. I'd call it "must have" for any ranged weapon focused build.

The rest of is the science skill tree sucks (unless you're going all in on outposts).

So I romanced Sarah for that extra xp gain after sleeping.

Now true to life she got mad at me for something and I had no idea what it was.  I asked her and she said I should know what I did wrong to piss her off.  She then refused to be my pack mule for several in game days before calming down and following me again.

I was going through that conversation like "WTF".  It was actually quite funny.

I also came across my first real bug.  I docked with a ship to find some bottles of booze for a mission and while i was there another ship docked as well.  So when I get back into my ship I am stuck in the docking room as our two ships are now merged.  However just hitting R rather than E when entering the ship solved that problem.

So was there an OTA patch released in the last few days? I haven't been able to play for the last day or two and when I started the game up this morning suddenly everything has HDR enabled now. The whites pop, the colors pop, and the game doesn't look like a gray washed out mess anymore. The difference is almost staggering.

I haven't tried it but it looks like Equipment Tier Prefixes  will get rid of the random words that show up for certain traits. Should simplify the item back to what it is though you won't know it's effects at a glance? There's another prefix mod that's developing slowly which tells you what something is  before the word soup that follows. It looks like it doesn't do weapons or apparel, yet. I'm hoping we get one that recategorizes items, too. Move digipick to aid and maybe move food out of aid?

Weapon and apparel mods are level locked, too? I hadn't noticed but didn't know what to look for, either. I'm seeing it with ship parts, though. Those seem to unlock faster and are only visible based on level and not Starship Design eligibility. Time for a mod that shows everything and their requirements!

Been playing this game for a few days.
This game has been a total blast, I love it!

However, I am a bit lost in the game. The game doesn't really do a lot of hand holding unlike a lot of previous Bethesda games.
Whenever I try to craft or build something, I need a ton of resources and I feel overwhelmed by how many resources there are in the game. Essentially it almost seems (at this stage in the game) like resources include the entire periodic table and then some!

But this leads to a problem.
In most games that involve crafting, you either have nearly unlimited storage space... or there are fewer resource types needed to craft things. Making it easy to stock on building supplies and always having stuff available to craft.
But the number of resources in this game AND limited storage space means you pretty much have to create a grocery list and go individually hunt for the individual resources that particular item you're trying to craft ... requires.

So what is the best advice for getting started with crafting? It seems no matter how much random resources I gather as I'm out and about, I *STILL* have not come across a single "recipe" I can complete with anything I have. I'm always missing *SOMETHING*.

I actually noted a solution on the last page because I felt the same way! The outpost storage is very weak considering the quantities of materials you need to make stuff, how much storage it consumes on your person and your ship, and how useless materials are for selling. You can resolve this with a quick console command: Click the item you want to affect (it should say CONT) and type the following in the console:
setav carryweight 1000
or whatever amount of kilograms you want it to hold. Default is 100 or something like that - only 30 to 60% of a player. I buffed mine to 1000 so each structure replaces 10 in the vanilla game. It's not unlimited and I've had to add more storage but it doesn't feel punitive. Here's what it should look like when you're in the console:

Bigger containers helps when you set up base automation, too, since there's no individual material filter and unusable materials can/will fill crates and block necessary materials from flowing in. If you build a transfer container, you can set up links that make materials/items flow out of it into their containers. This lets you dump all your player and ship resources right into the transfer container and it'll put gasses in the gas storage, magnets in the warehouse, etc. Definitely make your transfer container storage bigger, too, so you can dump your whole inventory in it rather than dumping whatever fits it 2-4 times. 1000 works great again!

When materials are in these storage containers, your inventory, or your ship, they're immediately available to the crafting stations. Items and materials in storage boxes are not available to the crafting stations.

ETA - You can also track recipes and you'll see the noted materials in a store's inventory when you're shopping. I grabbed a lot of adhesive this way. Make a mental note of what you need when you do this because it'll track resources you have in abundance, as well. But being able to stack materials in containers makes it easy to do a few missions and merc a few pirates then dump the found resources in your base!

Another wonderful contribution, thanks!

Perhaps you misunderstood- I'm very interested in this game, and will almost surely play it.  I'm just disappointed in the initial deliveries from Bethesda's last few games (and 76 was garbage).  Therefore, I'm going to hold off a little while before I jump in.  Im following progress because I will be playing at some point.

I haven't criticized a single person who is playing it.  I don't know why you're so sensitive about it.
Another wonderful contribution, thanks!

The rest of is the science skill tree sucks (unless you're going all in on outposts).

I made one comment about how I was excited about this game but don’t want to play it early.  For some reason, you take this personally and keep quoting me - apparently you’re trying to elicit some kind of emotional response or start some kind of purse fight, but I’m not interested, sorry.

If you wouldn’t keep quoting me, I’d have 2 posts in this thread.

Made it thought to NG+ L1.  It was worth doing, bit I don't plan to continue though all 10 levels.

Time to settle down and start building.

Has anyone heard of Bethesda is planning on pushing out any sort of patch for the Xbox to cover the various bugs? I am literally stuck not playing unless I give up 16 hours of gameplay. And I have no idea what caused my bug to begin with, so it may hit yet again.

There's still unfixed bugs in Skyrim and older games. I haven't heard anything, though. Good luck.

for anyone that doesn't mind a little cheating, achievements will still unlock, you can find several chest you can loot.

in New Atlantis you can get like 72k in money each time the chest respawns the goods in it but can be a little difficult to pull off cause you got to get under the map.

however in Akila a chest exist where all you have to do is crouch/sneak and point your cursor at the correct spot. you only get 5k credits at a time but you can get so much more as it is the chest that holds everything a vendor is selling. i keep resetting the chest for ammo, medpacks, and digipicks. lol.

Well that Level 21 character is saved. Went back to the same at Level 15 and went from there on a different route, so at least I'm enjoying the game again.

That's good. I'm unsure if I'll be doing NG+, but Starfield content seems to be what works on my fledgling channel and I'm having fun playing it, so I'll probably play through a couple of times.

Bethesda = Buggy

So I will say that I have experienced very very few issues in Starfield.  Some typical Bethesda Creation Engine stuff, sure.   But it is very playable and the few issues I have run into were in no way game breaking.

Overall I think they did a very nice job.

Picked this up last night. Pretty awesome so far, but one of the sidequests kinda drug on a little too long.

I also have no clue what I am doing right now.

Having no clue is best. I'm mostly playing blind through the game, too.

There's a few guides on Youtube that'll help you out. ESO is a good source for stuff.

The Mantis quest never gets old.

I try to do it as fast as I can after each NG+.
