That's Murica for you. The F-35 has come down in price quite a bit and after some growing pains performs pretty well. The acquisitions process needs fixed though to prevent that debacle from happening again.

Glad to see you aren’t in charge of purchasing. The F35 had better performance, sensors and stealth than the older gen while being comparable in price with their latest production blocks. There is zero reason to buy new F16s if you have access to the F35 and the F15 is going to be a missile truck for the F35 sensors.

Now show us on the map where the supply for the parts comes from.

Then remind me who is on who's "side"

Then show me how many of those jets they can build if they don't get the parts they need.

We've already seen what happens when we don't get parts for all of those trucks we can build

If you can't see it, you can't kill it. The AF just cut procurement of the F-15EX by 44%. Hint: Cheaper is not better. A Gen 4 missile bucket exists to extend the Gen 5, F-35 combat envelope.
All sales points to the F-15EX are fading as other countries are getting into the Gen. 5 game. Most countries don't need extra long-range or super duper speed. They do need survivability and versatility. In uncontested air space, there is an argument for a less capable B team fighter but in contested air space or Anti-Air threats send in the A Team F-35.

From what I understand, the F-15EX sales are a thing because of two reasons:

A. The F-35 isn't a direct replacement of the F-15. The F-15's mission is different than the F-35's.

and

B. Even if you discount "A," the line for the F-35 can't keep up with the amount of planes it has to replace due to the older frames aging out, so it makes sense to buy some brand-new F-15s that are even more capable than the current older ones.

The problem comes in lifespan of the airframe.  The F35 is around 9,000 hours.  The F15ex is over 20,000.  In the long run it is much less expensive than the F35
