If you can live with it for a short time, lots of dog shit in the area they're walking through. I few piles packed into their kicks will have them taking a different route shortly.

Can you dig down enough across the path to make it wet all the time? I am assuming ground water is pretty close to the surface in your location.

You might figure out when they go through then make sure it's wet/messy/muddy when that time comes around. Make sure there are sections of no grass and plant seeds and water it regularly right before they go through. If it's wet, muddy, and close to impassible they may find another route.

There are a number of very worthy solutions in this thread, which don't involve intentional injury to trespassers (and potential for liability for you). If your property extends 10-feet into wood line, why haven't you created a type of living fence, much like people have done for thousands of years? There is such thick undergrowth inside that forest, put it to work for you. You can bend over some of the smaller trees across the trail, along your property line, and use the other natural materials that are on hand there to start building a fenceline. What kind of rose bushes grow rapidly & flourish in your area with little to no maintenance? A year or two of growth for those and you'd have a near-impenetrable hedge fence. On our retirement property in Utah (mini-ranch), I've been planting Japanese rose bushes that flourish in the cold along our fence that borders our access road, and man are they thorny...in a few years they should cover the fence almost entirely. They don't really like the heat which we don't really have there at our elevation. You've got enough natural materials there to build one hell of a natural barrier to pedestrians/trespassers. Wildlife will probably be more prevalent afterwards with less foot traffic, and won't be deterred by natural barriers. |

Signage serves to satisfy an element of notice for trespass laws. If the signs are missing our not visible, then there could be a challenge that notice was not given and first time trespasses will only be warned. My understanding of trespass ifs is that notice must be given Bedford the charge can be made. IIRC, I had tio post signage every 200 ft along the fenceline so that you couldn't stand anywhere and not be able to see a readable sign.

You said near the city. Move away from it. In ten years your gonna lose property value, resale opportunity and the ransacking will escalate soon enough into full blown theft and vandalism. Cops won't do anything because the crimes are so low on their priorities and you property is set up perfectly for trespass abuse. Looks like an easy path for ghetto trash to move between the nicer areas unseen. Your pond is nice and seems like a nice place but they are out breeding us. You'll be living in Compton in ten years dude. |

As some have said, anything you install that points back to you will be damaged and put you in the crosshairs for retaliation.
You need to divert them temporarily with something that looks naturally occurring, then fortify to make the diversion permanent. It looks like you can drop a tree (maybe a few) from inside the tree line across the path and over the bank of your pond. It will look like a naturally fallen tree and they can see it from far away. This will divert them around the other side of the pond before they have a chance to come closer and look into the woods to see an intentional cut (if they even think to check). They will not be looking to cut a tree and possibly get covered in sap on the way to wherever they're going. Nor can they clear it as easily or quietly as they could cut a chain link fence. Once you have them diverted you can fortify with other natural or man-made barriers behind your felled tree. Over time, they will forget about your access point and you will not be marked as the one who did it. |

You have a real problem and it is not easy to address. The only good signs will do is help (or hurt) when the authorities get involved. These yutes are not going to bother learning to read a sign much less obeying one. Any sort of threatening signage will be viewed as a challenge by the yutes and as intent on your part when the police become involved. Simple "No Trespassing" signage in conformity with local laws and placement will help you in any sort of civil or criminal proceeding but forget the thinly veiled threats. These yutes are not afraid of you, the "authorities" or the police for that matter. They would likely welcome the challenge. They have NOTHING to lose. You have everything to lose. They know that. Worst case scenario for them is gaining some street cred or becoming a BLM poster child. Worst case for you is losing everything you have earned, spending time being tenderly loved in prison, becoming a prohibited person and spending the rest of your poor life looking over your shoulder. Cameras are good. Keep filing police reports and maintain a good record of what is going on with dates and times. Like others have said, your best option is to discourage use of the path. Maybe till a section from the woods to the water as a "gardening" project to create a quagmire (giggity). Invite neighbors to walk their dogs or otherwise leave shit on the trail. Consider planting irritating or stinging plants. Allow the area you control to overgrow. Most yutes do not want to walk through waste high grasses. Can you infest the area with insects? Ticks, Chiggers, Fireants? As long as the trail is inviting, they will use it. You may not want a fence but you may need a fence. |

Have you noticed if they come through at the same time every day? If so, after you have the NT signs up for a few days, you could possibly be waiting with LE the next time they come through?
Just a thought. 
I know it's aggravating, we had problems with people using our property as a short cut for ATVing and horses at all hours of the day and night, the vandalism/stalking was an added attraction. We finally won the war, but the battles left scars on both of us. We did make a lasting friendship with a captain at the sheriff's office. That man saved my sanity. Seriously. |

Would it be possible to huge load of clay at a pinch point? Keep it well watered and anyone trying to pass will slip and get clay all over them. Make it look like it got dug up by planting some bushes in the same area.
