Local store has police trade ins with night sights and three 15 round magazines for $349. Seems like a good deal. (At least I hope they still have them, their add came out last week.) I've never owned one, and if I ever shot one it was a Taurus copy back in the 80s so I don't remember it.
Should everyone have one in their collection. I have no other 9mm handguns. |
If it's the fixed front sight then it's going to be hard to find a company to replace the tritium vial. Trijicon no longer services the 92 front sights.
But, yes, they are fine pistols. Love all of mine. |
I think everyone needs at least one 9mm. I think that 9mm should be a P226. But...failing that...a 92FS would work.
Love it or hate it, it's been the standard issue pistol of the US Army for the last 32 years.
They are nice pistols, if you absolutely must have 9mm in your life. I must not.

beretta is a good gun, I qualified expert with one, but I shoot the beretta the worst out of everything I have ever shot.. glock, sig, 1911, BHP, cz75, xd9, ruger sr9, I'm better with all of those, ability to hit things with the beretta is dead last out of everything iv ever shot...
I would not turn down a cheap beretta 92.... but id RATHER, have about anything else. |
I also had issues with the 92...some nice features, but ultimately not my favorite 9.
My other consideration is a CZ-75. How would those compare. I've been shooting 1911s a lot. I can't stand the trigger on my Glocks anymore.
I did get my quarterly bonus today. If I don't get one of those, PSA is going to be getting some of it. |
I wouldn't take one for free. If you want a 9mm, get a G19.
ETA: DA/SA sucks. If you want something other than a Glock, get a P30 with LEM. |

I love my Glock 19, but was issued the Beretta for Afghanistan. Big, bulky, thumb safety, but it performed. The Canadians I were with LOVED shooting it.
Nope not a Beretta pistol fan, BUT that M9A3 is one nice looking pistol. It would not takemuch for me to buy one of those.

Palmetto State Armory has the 92FS for $449 with free shipping right now. I'd buy new over a police trade in. I have a 92SF, I prefer my CZ-SP01 over it. The SP01 will run you about $140 more than the Beretta at PSA. I don't have a 75B, but a high polished stainless is on my short list.
I am by no means a fan of the M9, at all. Avoided them like the plague, except when quals came around. But I own one anyway.
I think every American man should own the current issue rifle and sidearm. Founders' intent, and all that. |

Yeah, it's one of those guns that "gun people" need to have one of.
If you're a gun aficionado that likes guns that shoot freakishly accurate you should have one. The smooth as glass slide action is also very satisfying.
I say it actually edges out the Sig P226 a little in accuracy based on my experience. It's a great range/fun gun so I wouldn't worry too much about the dim tritium. |

I really don't like them. A Sig 226 and a CZ 75 are both far superior weapons. I prefer my Elite 229R and my CZ 75 TS orange

I see someone else already mentioned Palmetto State having NIB ones for $449. For only $100 more than your Police Trade In deal, that's the way to go.

I like my M9. It's a big SOB, but accurate and reliable. It hasn't missed a target at Cola Warrior West yet.

Carried a Beretta 96 Brigadier as a duty weapon for years.
It was a pig...... Much happier with an HK. |
I've got a 92F because my dad wanted to be Martin Riggs/John McClane
I have one because I have enough guns that one has to be in my collection for the historical/pop-culture reasons.
It is a large handgun for what it is, but it is reliable and accurate. |

One of the most iconic pistols of all time. Give them good mags and they run flawlessly.
That being said, the 92 series has been long eclipsed by many other DA/SA and striker fired designs. I have an M9, and with the deals going on with the Italian 92FS models, I've decided to keep one from inventory, and send it in to Wilson Combat for a carry package job. Attached File Attached File |

Of course, best pistols ever over anything else on the market! Beretta M9/92 series > Sig, Glock, 1911, and all the other trash can guns that belong in the trash can! (Please throw in my trash can, thanks!)
For that price, I'd consider it.
Use the money saved over a NIB from PSA to replace all the springs and maybe the locking block. Factor in the 3rd mag and you're probably still ahead of the game, financially. |

Everyone should aim to own 1 of everything and 2 of the things they like.

I can't say that everyone should have one, but, if it's something you want, go for it. Buy two while you're at it.

It was the first gun I bought when I got out of the Army, because it was the only handgun I knew anything about.
Then I started renting other stuff at the range. Quickly I realized what the Army finally did, it's a turd. |

Have owned several over the years and currently have a Vertec. Always qualified Expert in the military and at the Sheriffs Department that decided to issue us the D models. Not my favorite pistol, but they work.

1st rule is to change out parts, installing a "G" Hammer spring is @ the top of the list. I got both on my M9 and it’s still meh. Attached File |

View Quote Hint: If you shoot proof loads using out-of-spec ammo due to a Winchester design fuck up, use third-tier parts that are not up to spec, use junk magazines, and reassemble a fresh pistol out of five worn out ones and the "fresh" one runs like a piece of shit, the problem isn't the gun, it's you. Do the same thing to a P226, a USP, or even the damned Mark 23 and you're going to get similar results. Or any machine, for that matter. The 92 is a tank when given basic maintenance and proper parts. |
