LOL,
As the old saying goes, I'm too old to take a beating In Too Young To Die. when I turned sixty I kicked a 19 year olds ass I had him down in the ground and I was b**** slapping him. Somebody said it was because I had old man strength yeah, maybe. truth is I knew I couldn't run away from him, and I knew if I didn't kick his ass in the first minute I would tire out and he'd kick my ass. |

My old man passed on several pearls of wisdom to me in my teen years. One was:
"Be respectful to old folks. One, because it is just good manners. Two, because old folks have less to lose than most and they will no hesitate to kill you if push them too far." |

Let me put it this way.
-I base judgements based on individuals. Everyone gets a measure of respect till they prove otherwise. -Some people make mistakes, and that’s OK. Shit happens. Maturity is knowing the difference. -However act like trash and you get treated like trash. Irregardless of age. -Now some kids just have never had sense slapped into them. It’s annoying that I’m now put into this position but I will make the best of it. -Just like some old men have never had to account for their bullshit. It’s sad that I have to be the one giving an attitude adjustment this late in life. But I am the end result of decades of fail by other people. |

I don't typically treat anyone with what I would call "deference," in the sense that "I'd better stay out of their way because they might beat me up" or any such nonsense.
That's absurd. I treat everyone I meet with what used to be common courtesy until they show me whether or not they deserve my respect. Respect and deference are things that must be earned. |

Young guy starting fight with old guy is elder abuse and you'll be looked down upon in jail. If old guy beats young guy up its looked at as young punk had it coming he should know his place.
Respect goes a long way. If you think youre better than someone else because of age, then one day that chip is gonna get knocked off your shoulders. Age doesnt mean shit. |

I am late to this thread and that's a bummer. I think I have something to add.
It's been a while since I took evolutionary psych, but I distinctly remember a portion of it referencing that gray hair in males was honest signaling for dominance. This is true in lots of different animal types, including primates (humans). Why? I'm not sure. But if I could guess, age usually equals higher standing in the group/cohort/community/what-have-you. So my guess is it's not that the old dudes are actually tougher, but that the community you are in will shun you for being violent with someone higher in the social order. |
|
I prefer the idea of leaving your hands off other people unless its self defense of self, property, or others.
Words aren't something to fight over, or you become the problem. |
|
Most old guys have learned to treat others with respect until it's time not to. An old guy who gets into a straight up fight with a young man is doing it wrong. Always have the means to make it an unfair fight in your favor, old or young.
