Eddie did some copying too. Do an image search for the punk band "The Dils". They were playing in clubs in LA in 77. You will find a photo of the guitarist jumping in the air while playing a Les Paul with black electrical tape stripes. This predates when Eddie first painted Frankie. The Eddie jump looks familiar also...

Everyone copies everyone. Yet people make it their own too.
Roth added in the jumps, karate kicks and the banter. |
|
Dave made it look cool.
The other guy who I never heard of made it look gay, not YMCA gay, but gay. |
|
I saw Black Oak Arkansas and James Gang in Louisville at the KY State Fair in '72. Black Oak opened the show and James Gang couldn't get the audience going after that. Black Oak Arkansas was a tough act to follow in that era.

Wow, have not heard mention of Ruby Starr in a long time. Looked her up just now, she passed in '95...

Random question: Is Jim Dandy the one DLR is referring to in “Top Jimmy”?
|
|
No, he didn’t rip off shit. That Jim Dandy guy sucks. There is no way in hell he could pull off Hot for Teacher. There are similarities, sure, but copied him? Not even close. Unless Roth admitted he did, that claim is just sensationalist bullshit from another washed out music media outlet.

Elvis got his moves from a gospel group. exaggerated by 10X or more, but the moves are there in the old videos. Michael Jackson was never accused of stealing moves

Every rock band back then was doing the big hair thing, nothing new
Most every band did not make it. |

I saw BOA at biker rally/concert held at a private lake just outside of West Memphis AR circa 1984, I don't recall stage theatrics.
That is where I met the woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her left tit. She told me how she was going to fuck my brains out. She scared me. |
|
Elvis was far worse...stole music and style from many talented black musicians...Elvis was a douche punk.
|
|
Looks-wise, maybe. They sound nothing alike. This is one of my favorite songs, Uncle 'Lijah by BOA:

Jim Dandy himself says David Lee Roth did not copy his act. So, you heard it from the man himself.
