I'm pretty sure that Idris Elba has said he's too old to play the part. I think Tom Hiddelston could do it, but to many people would say "why is Loki playing James Bond?"  Michael Fassenbender would be good, too, but the Brits would collectively shit themselves if a German played Bond.

Fleming's Bond was dark and unpleasant.

And was never truly happy, nor did he feel he was deserving of happiness. Which is why the ending on this one worked so well IMO

Have you every heard of the term whitewashing? You literally have 100 movies contradicting your exact point.

Can I imagine the outcry in white people playing non-white characters in comic movies? You mean like...

Liam Neeson playing the Asian character Ra's al Ghul

Tom Hardy playing a Bane, a character with a latin mother (this one is more of a stretch)

Tilda Swinton plays the Ancient One, an Asian character in the comics

Justin Chatwin playing a Japanese Goku character in DragonBallZ

Johnny Depp playing Tonto in Lone Ranger

D.B. Sweeney plays Terry Fitzgerald, who is African-American in Spawn

Benedict Cumberbatch playing the villain Khan Noonien Singh, an Indian character in Star Trek Into the Darkness

Casper Van Dien playing Johnny Rico, a character from Philippines in Starship Troopers

Angelina Jolie playing Fox in Wanted. She was black in the comics.

And that's not counting the James Bond movies with white actors playing non-white Characters from the books. Or the numerous films all throughout the 50s-70s of popular white actors playing non-white characters.

But please, read for yourself...

Starship Troopers was originally a book.

Johnny Rico was Filipino in the book.

In the movie, they changed it to Argentina so they could cast a white/European character.

My bad.

The book is actually a great science fiction novel. I highly recommend it to anyone that hasn't read it. Just an easy read with lots of interesting political themes.

The movie came out when I was in high school. So I’m not burdened with having to dislike the movie because it has nothing in common with the book. I can just enjoy it for what it is- a stupid 90’s movie full of violence and nudity. What’s not to like?!

I’ll read the book one of these days.

Sgt Nick Fury and his Howling Commandos (Circa 1963).  Not sure how they made him black later on but he didn’t start out that way.

And where is the comparable “blackwashing” ?  Oh we don’t talk about that!  That would be racist!

That's just fan theory. Right up there with John Mason in The Rock actually being Bond (which I kinda like).  Examples: Roger Moore's Bond putting flowers on his dead wife's grave, or Craig's Bond having Connery's Bond Aston Martin in storage. Uh....what?

It's just a movie, I know. But I think they will be going with that fan theory as the way forward. Lame.

No, they actually made him physically toxic, as in will kill anyone he comes in contact with; specifically the two people in his life that he cares for the most.
The ending was stupid. His was not the ultimate sacrifice. He could never live any kind of life again. Even a dark and unpleasant one.

His character arc went from "blunt instrument" that refused to love, to someone with nothing left to live for so he just quits.

Wasn't it the case that most Bonds were actors with less name recognition?   I think Hardy would be good but I don't see it happening for one reason or another.
