I've got to work but my wife and kids are planning on going to her parents to watch it in Spring City, TN

Planning on visiting my parents farm in WV...
Should get about 95% coverage there. |
Probably head to one of the local wineries and sip a civilized adult beverage while it's happening.

If you plan central or eastern Oregon, you'd better be ready for insanity.
Tens of thousands of people are heading for Big Summit Prairie. It will be hot and dry. There are essentially no services. There are lots of chokepoints on the roads. When some yahoo drives over dried vegetation and starts a grass fire, it could easily turn into a very bad situation. The Madras Airport has RV sites at a little more reasonable price, but it will be a nightmare to get out of there when the show ends that morning. The crowds are so crazy that the Circle K gas station is renting out spots behind it for RV's for $500. This is a little square of broken asphalt next to the pumps. Camping Details Tent Spots Available RV Spots available and are 12'x40' at a 60-degree angle. DRY CAMPING required. NO OPEN FIRE is permitted (BBQs are OK). RV Dump is available at no charge for registered campers and extra Porta-Potties will also be available onsite. Reserve your space now: 10 tent sites available: $50.00 per night 4-night minimum RV sites: $250.00 per night site 2-night minimum Reservations held with a CC -- cash or check only, pay in advance. |

I had been planning to drive to Idaho but another thread left me to believe that the traffic and the crowds would be awful. My wants to go to Cody Wyoming this year so maybe we will head up there and just hang out on the way until the eclipse passes before going on. View Quote I'm in WI and I was thinking of waiting to decide until a couple days before to see what the weather is going to do to us. |

At my driving range. We're having free beer and free range balls during it.
Going to my daughters house in Myrtle Beach.
Fun thing to do with the grandkids. I sent them the "glasses" a couple of months ago. 99.3?? close enough to total. |
I'll walk outside the office door. We're supposed to have 96% coverage.
UGA is opening up Sanford Stadium apparently. I plan on going there or on a roof top bar somewhere.
I don't even think I am going to watch it. I don't feel like it's a very big deal. I remember seeing one before. Lots of people in CO are talking about driving up to WY to see it, but there's only 1 major road to/from the front range to the viewing path, it's going to be a parking lot.
OK, I will be home from work at the time of this big deal. guess I might watch it.

In a city directly in the path, probably working even though it's my day off. PD is sized for a population of 125,000, poor pay and treatment has reduced it by 20% so we could probably handle 90,000. There is supposed to be tourists in the city jacking up the number to 600,000. Criminal activity will go through the flippin' roof.

I live right in the path. I bought 50 pairs of glasses. My plan is to shut down my business for 30 minutes, walk into the back yard (which I share with a quick shop) and share my glasses with anybody standing around.

Anyone have any digiscoping experience? Wanting to use a Phone Skope hooked to a vortex Razor HD spotting scope, to film. Do I risk frying my phones camera? I'm pretty close to a full eclipse.

Heard water cooler talk today that the National Guard is getting called out for traffic duty, with 250,000 to a million expected local LEOs will be overwhelmed! Every local business I know is trying to rent any refer truck they can find, and expect to pay $10 a bag for ice if you can find any, the traffic will bring re-supply to a halt. If you have a medical condition please stay home, it's going to be like Black Friday at Wal-mart times 100 everywhere! View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Have a cabin rented in Maggie Valley NC, then driving 1 hour 15 minutes into TN to see it.
Anyone know if wearing a welding helmet or cutting torch goggles safe to view it? |
Front yard, probably. Not in the path of totality, but close enough. Not driving to Spring City just for that.
