Tropical storm Hilary is forecast to hit LA on Sunday with winds of up to 80mph: California's first potential cyclone landfall since 1939
Tropical Storm Hilary is currently brewing off the coast of Mainland Mexico and is due to develop into a hurricane by 1pm on Thursday
By Sunday afternoon Hilary is expected to become a lesser hurricane and then hit Southern California and potentially Los Angeles as a tropical storm
The National Weather Service has warned of potential flooding, fire risk and dangerous marine conditions

40 mph winds?

Oh no.

Just watched a prediction of a Category 4 as it builds in the next days.

The Inland Empire east of the Los Angeles basin could get 8 inches of rain from the storm. They don't get 8" of rain in some years.

People that have built in the desert are going to see if their flood plans are accurate.

South facing beaches should get some nice swells. Unfortunately the fire scars could get some flooding.

There's no chance they'll have to evacuate.  By the time the storm gets here, if it actually does, there won't be any significant storm surge.

The article is saying 70mph winds. I’m in San Diego, I guess we’ll get it as bad or worse, should be interesting. I love rain, I love storms. I’m really looking forward to this, as long as shit doesn’t get damaged.

Will hopefully be a good stress test for my new roof!

But it will help to clean the poop off the streets downtown.

We actually had a hurricane hit in 1858.

Usually tropical cyclones have become post- or extra-tropical by the time they get here.  It happens every few years.  We get a bunch of rain and lightning, mostly in the mountains and deserts.

Yeah, that's a pretty suspect headline. I suppose if you split hairs, you could argue that is correct. But it's pretty much a climate change bullshit headline.

My properties would be just fine.  The traffic would suck badly, and many places that were developed in the last 20-ish years would get flooded.

The cold current will kill it as it gets closer, so a storm is all it will be. The last Cat 1 was almost 150 years ago and hit SD.

There have been plenty of others to hit CA, but that doesn't make the exciting news nor would it make this storm seem newsworthy.
