I love this movie.   I've seen it six times just since it hit Netflix alone.  Fingers crossed for the Han Solo film coming out next year.

Just take The Imperial assault on Hoth, throw in the 2 minutes of Vader fucking shit up the rebels in RO, bake 2hours 15 minutes @ 350 degrees and you have and sweet concept for a good movie.

Shame Vader would have to be retconned into a minority chick though.

I don't know. The first time I watched Rogue One, I didn't care for either lead character. My kids and wife watched it a second time with me and they thought it was mediocre at best. Force Awakens was a lot better.
No chemistry between any of the characters in RO. Forrest Whitaker has done some great stuff and he was kind of just there in this movie. When the robot is more interesting then the lead characters, movie has a major problem.

I was talking to my wife about Rogue One last night and said, "if anyone was serious they would get Clint Eastwood to direct and cowrite a Star Wars movie."

A true great space Western set in the Star Wars universe, without all the faggotry of the last five movies.

I want to watch that Star Wars movie.

Kind of how I saw it.  Sometimes the good guys don't make it.  It was a relief from the usual cartoonish dancing bear Ewok endings.

That part gave me a major star wars boner.  When I realized where it was all going, I felt like I was 12 again watching the original movie in the theater. The only disappointment was that it hinted at what a colossal badass vader was but didn't show enough of about that.

And they screwed up what could have been the best line of the movie.

"Be careful not to choke on your aspirations."

Really?  REALLY?  They passed up the opportunity for him to say,

"Be careful not to aspirate on your aspirations."

That woulda been gold.

You argue like a liberal.  You position yourself as an authority and then you make accusations as though you can magically read my mind.  I hope some day when you grow up that you'll re-read this thread and feel shame.

I'm not offended, I just don't like when people review something they have no or little knowledge of.  You could have got what little information you have from reviews or discussions but if you believe Jyn was some "hero, bad ass" you did not see the entire movie.

The original appeal of the movies had nothing to do with the storytelling abilities of the screenwriters, or the directing ability of the George Lucas.

They were great because the casting was perfect, and the special effects were spot on and wowed the hell out of everyone in the 70's and 80's.

There is no wow factor with the new movies, and the SJW everyone gets a turn casting sucks.  So they are just average Sci-Fi movies now.   Kinda where I figured the series would end up, you could never replicate the success of the original trilogy.

That said, at least rogue one was better than Ep7, and I'm sorry I didn't see it in theaters.

Rogue One was bad for a number of reasons. Thankfully it was saved by the greatest 45 seconds in cinematic history.

When you are the first at anything it is kind of easy to be groundbreaking.  When I saw them in the mid 90's after they had been touched up for the first time they held their own but were nothing really groundbreaking as far as effects go to me.

Honestly I like all the Star Wars movies to this point, some more than others.  I thought Rogue One was pretty good.

I think it works BETTER as a stand-alone.  They didn't do a good job sewing together the timeline IMO.

Because he lost his edge. Period. He made six movies and built a billion dollar industry based on a story he created in the mid 70s. It was time other people stepped in and helped originate new ideas for the franchise.

With the two most recent movies, that's it, no more Death Stars. New ideas. There's a Galaxy full of great stories to tell. Tell them.

uh the end of R1 literally butts up to the original 1977 Star Wars... in cinematic history no movie has had a better sewing together of its timeline.

Star Killer was what?  A planet modified into a Death Star that could destroy multiple targets across the galaxy.  Didn't really add much to the movie aside from a place for the best character in the series to die.

Prequel trilogy was full of new ideas, more than many "diehard" fans could handle.

My feeling was that at some point they had a decent movie but it was 45-60 minutes too long and after ham fisted editing effort they ruined it. I doubt there is even a director's version, if there is they wont release it probably till 2027.

It was a place to restart the franchise with familiar tropes.

Most of what the Prequels added that was new - as in, not part of that explosive creative burst he had in the 70s - was bad.

I really liked it. I don't know if it was a stand alone in the sense of the full storyline, but a very good movie.

Yep.

I got less of a 'multi-cultural' vibe and a lot more of a 'motley group of pissed of people from around the galaxy' vibe.  They were a group of people united by ideology, not much else.

And the final group of them were somewhat ashamed of how they had conducted themselves, in the name of something honorable they did despicable things.  They wanted redemption for their souls as much as to put a finger in the eye of the Empire.

Why is this concept so hard to catch?  I'm surprised at so many people missing the characters and the development of the story.  It's far and away deeper than the other SW stories, but I guess if you have to stretch beyond 'Ow my balls' it's just lame, eh?

Same shit going on with Marvel. Bigger and bigger baddies / threats while the real interesting story telling is avoided. In the case of Star Wars, they seem unwilling (so far) to really explore the expanded universe, preferring instead to rehash old plots. With Marvel, it’s even worse. Their TV universe has been ignored, and left to go off on its own timeline. I am not yet convince the movies won’t start becoming bad cliches of themselves.

THIS! Thrawn/anything by Zahn, Jaina Solo, Darth Caedus, Darth Bane, there are some fantastic stories in the EU but they discarded them so they could remake Ep. IV. Sad.
