Stats that matter
1. 149: Points scored by Ole Miss in its first two games. Ole Miss is the first SEC team to score 70 points or more in back-to-back games and the first in any conference to do so since Houston in 1968. 2. 1-101: Record for FCS teams against AP top-10 teams since the FBS/FCS split in 1978, after Auburn came from behind to beat Jacksonville State in overtime. The lone victory by an FCS team was Appalachian State's upset of No. 5 Michigan at the Big House in 2007. 3. 11: Yards of offense for FCS member Howard in its 76-0 loss at Boston College. The Bison had 4 passing yards on two completions and 7 rushing yards on 28 attempts. That is the fewest yards allowed by an FBS team in the past 20 years. 4. 134: Points scored by Georgia Tech in its first two games, after the Yellow Jackets defeated FCS member Alcorn State in Week 1 and Tulane 65-10 on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets joined the 1992 Florida State team as the only ACC squads to score 65 points or more in consecutive games. ^-----These stats set up some interesting games this weekend.-----^ 1. Ole Miss @ bama 2. Auburn @ LSU 3. FSU @ BC Friday Night 4. GT @ ND 1) haven't watched either team enough this year to make an educated guess.....but I see Ole Miss win 2) Auburn has had two poor showings so far albeit both wins....but poor showings. The LSU of the first half this weekend wins. The LSU of the second half this weekend loses. Depends which LSU team shows up. My money is on Auburn because at least they seem to be able to play for 4 quarters. 3)FSU. Because Of Dalvin Cook. Bottom line. Cook wins the game for us and scores over half if not three quarters of the TD. 4) GT.......will wipe the Irish up with the triple threat. That game is by two TD or more. Again, though....,.we both know Vegas isn't calling me for advice anytime soon As just confirmed by WDE |

That's sort of a self-validating standard, isn't it? I mean, the polls are nothing but popularity contests, and the SEC is very popular. Ergo, 10 ranked SEC teams. Is Auburn better than Wisconsin? No. But which one was top 10 and which one was unranked? Which one took care of business, and got major game time for 2nd & 3rd string players, and which barely escaped with a desperate, last-ditch win? I'm not an SEC hater. But I'm one who thinks the hubris in that conference is entirely unjustified. They have great, great teams at the top, but the rest are consistently overrated. It's pretty fluffy, but then, such was the SEC schedule yesterday. If the Southeastern Conference isn’t more careful, it will have to rummage through the attic and find some humility.
It hasn’t practiced much of that across the last decade as it has thundered over the footballing country — wreaking envy, resentment, obsession, fatigue, bad vibes and accusations of (oh, no!) media bias — with seven national titles and a rollicking hubris. Some have found this grating; others have found it justified. After Saturday, even those who found it justified have to surmise it might have become farcical. On any given Saturday... I love college football. The SEC gets ragged on a lot around here. I wonder how other people's team schedules stack up against a typical SEC schedule. We played 2 other top 25 teams in bowl games and beat both of them too. Oklahoma 15 and Duke 23. I bet the other SEC schedules have about the same number of ranked opponents since the great majority of these are other SEC teams. I challenge anyone on here to post their teams FINAL AP ranked opponents from the last 3 years for the regular season. It won't even be close. That's sort of a self-validating standard, isn't it? Your response is referencing PRESEASON rankings and what occurred yesterday. My post referenced the FINAL AP rankings. BIG difference. The final ranking is taking into consideration how the team performed all year not some preseason projection. Did Auburn look like shit yesterday? Sure they did. I was pulling for them to lose for that showing. Plus it helps the Ags. Arkansas played like ass too and deserved to lose. The AP rankings are done by 61 sports writers and broadcasters from around the nation. Is there some biased? Most likely but not enough for that many teams to be consistently ranked that high at the end of the year. How many ranked teams will Wisconsin play this year during the regular season? They played 5 in 2012, 2 in 2013 and 1 last year. That's 8 in 3 years vs A&M having played 13. |

I don't think anyone has ever said that the SEC is bad, just overrated. Last year there was only 1 power 5 conference in which the majority of its top 25 teams dropped in the rankings in the final poll. Good or not they are consistently overrated and much of the college football world is tired of hearing hearing about them 24/7 365. The excuses never end and the on-field performance certainly hasn't lived up to the hype. 3 or 4 good teams year in and year out shouldn't mean that somehow most of their conference should be considered top teams. Offense looked better than they did last week but the defense only managed one sack against Ball St and speaking of overrated teams and mediocre performances, Arizona St struggled this weekend with an FCS school. We look okay, but we don't look really good. We looked awesome with our starters in there. 49 points in the 1st half when we already had backups in and held them to 3 points. We could have played like purple Baylor and scored 80-100 points on them if we wanted to. Their first offensive possession scared me. I was having 2014 flashbacks. But after that we settled down until the 2nd half and then just started playing too deep. The 12th man walkon was playing in the secondary at the end of the game. That's how far down we dug to give the guys some playing time. How many teams has the 3rd string QB gotten reps this year without an injury causing it? It was glorious........although Sumlin did almost cause me to lose my 30 point cover bet. I am going to continue to pump you full of the maroon koolaid. |

We look okay, but we don't look really good. Ok, I didn't watch the A&M v. Ball State game I guess the score is misleading. Like OSU's game. Offense did not live up to expectations v. Hawaii Yes and no on the score being misleading. The offense and special teams caused us to jump out to a 28-3 lead in the first quarter, so they were humming right along. By the fourth quarter, I was having to look up names because I'd never seen them play before. But the run defense didn't look as dominant as it did last week, there were less sacks, and it was Ball St so anything short of a blow out makes you at least wonder a little bit. Conversely, we played a ton of 2nd, 3rd and 4th string guys too so.... I'm not saying we're bad, but you add just an "okay" performance (though considering how other teams fared against their cupcakes this week I guess it was a pretty damn good one) to reading about how Arizona St struggled against an FCS school and it has me seeing flashbacks of 2014 where our first dominant performance over a quality team might not turn out to be such a quality win after all. This team has the potential to do great things, but the dominoes are going to have to fall just right for it to happen this year. Still have a lot of sophomores starting, a lot of depth issues and a lot of unknowns. I thought the Arkansas game would really show us what kind of team this is....and it still may. Just because Arkansas had a bad week doesn't mean they'll still look like garbage when we play them in Jerry World. I'm not sold on us being really good this year yet. |

Auburn fell down almost 10 spots in the poll. Damn.
In all honesty, my opinion is that the game wasn't a result of Auburn being a "fake" good team. I think they just felt like they showed up thinking they could sleep walk through yesterday's game. ETA: Actually they fell more than 10 spots, according to AP. I guess I was looking at the ESPN poll or something. |

Picks for this week (and I generally try to pick the tougher/closer games):
LSU-Auburn.....man, I don't know. On paper LSU....but something about auburn plays more consistent for 4 quarters (sometimes consistently shitty, but consistent) so I'm going with Auburn on this. Close game, come from behind...less than a TD GT-ND....to me, no brainier. I think Tech runs all over the Irish. Literally runs the ball all over them. GT by more than a couple scores. Ole Miss-Bama......Ole Miss is firing on all cylinders. Bama is still working some kinks out. Close game, lead changes a few time. Rebs pull it out. Gamecocks-dogs......spurrier has got to be pissed. I think I'll go with Gamecocks on this one. And a bonus call.... Kentucky-Florida.....gators look strong. Tackling skills look great. They pull,it out........ LOL,,jk....gators get stomped. |

I think Bama pulls this one off..........kinks, yes, but I think this being a big game the focus will be intense, and the run defense is good......those young DBs will settle down........GT will beat ND, AU takes LSU,I think UGA takes their game, and the UK/UF game is a toss up, although I think in time Coach Mac will get them going........just needs a couple of good recruiting classes

Ranger, What are your thought on us playing Friday night up at BC? Its got me worried. View Quote We've never done that well historically on a short practice week. Especially a road game. However, the defense is getting better. White and Ramsey have been making great plays on the ball and we are getting at least two sacks per game and plenty of tackles for loss. Offense also,is getting there. Cook....well, he is simply amazing and getting better every week. I know that seems impossible but he is. I guarantee BC defense is afraid of him and figuring out a way to stop him. That's fine, because it opens up for Whitfield and Rudolph. Golson needs to settle down and the passes will be there. Overall, we win. But not sure we'll cover the spread (10.5). |

LSU - Auburn......LSU. Sad to say it, but LSU can throw the ball better than AU's horrible QB...unless you count throwing the ball in a pretty spiral to the other team, then AU's QB is great. LSU will not win by throwing though. It will be a heavy dose of power running and the defense taking advantage of AU mistakes. 33-10 GT-ND....close, if ND's QB wasn't hurt..... taking GT to pull it out. Ole Miss - Bama....Ole Miss gets up quick but then Bama claws back into it and pulls it out...maybe OT. 36-33 gamecock- dogs..... dogs. Easy. Dumpster fire in Columbia. 45-27 Kentucky- Florida..... Want to say Kentucky, but going to go with Florida. If Florida does lose, I hope it is due to something awesome....like a guy running the wrong way and dropping the ball in the endzone... |

It's fodder for the analysts and fans to debate. You never know how a team is going to jell once the season starts and if injuries are going to take a toll. Look at BYU and ND losing their starting QB's. That's a difficult thing to overcome. Not every team has crazy depth at QB like Ohio State demonstrated last year. |

That makes it a lot easier to spot him. https://scontent-mia1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/12009563_868454079871071_2467317846826118849_n.jpg?oh=92e3cbbc24f69334ec6ae192b73905af&oe=569EAEFC The cool thing is that the Corps is on the sidelines at the end of the game, so he got that view too - and then they chased down the Yell leaders and he was one of the guys that carried them to the fountain to throw them in. He had a great time. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Don't know about y'all, but I am drinky-drank like a mofo. BTHO Ball St! Well, a couple of people have wondered where I've been, and it's with these stupid Aggies. I find everyone's lack of faith in Bama, at home, disturbing. We only lost in their house to a better team last year after our players spirits snapped with Kenyan drakes ankle. I can't express how bad that was. And we still *should* have won. If they're not winning by 21 or more at the half (and I really want to say at the end of the first quarter), they are just not going to win.

Cool! My son is in F-2 (STEM outfit); he's majoring in microbiology.

As I posted earlier, it's Ohio State and Bama.......then everyone else. |

Agreed Preseason rankings are projections based on things like the previous years success, returning starters, stregnth of schedule, coaching changes etc. All it is is an educated guess. If cardale and jt go down we're calling braxton Miller our 3rd string quarterback and doing it again. |
