Year after year he has a team loaded with talent and year after year he underachieves. But hey, if you're happy with having a top 10-20 quality team (in terms of talent at least) that wins 8-10 games, goes to a decent bowl game, but can't win the big one and will never win a national championship no matter how loaded his team is: Mark Richt is the coach for you. |

I grew up in Ga, so I'm familiar with the hate for Richt, but do not understand it. He consistently has 8-10 win seasons, and everyone is quick to want to fire him. I don't get it. View Quote Its not hate, just frustration...he's an absolutely mediocre coach who's been given all the talent in the world, and has nothing more to show for it than two SEC titles and zero NC appearances. Now, I am not a delusional UGA/SEC homer who assumes we should be competing for national titles every year. But, if you consider the amount of talent to come through Athens, there is no excuse for the results. You put Saban, Meyer, Spurrier, or even Miles in at coach during that time, and you have 1-2 championships. Hell, look at the '08 season, you had the #1 overall pick in Stafford at QB, and the 1st RB picked in Moreno, and the team finished with three losses...with no SEC title. Look at last year, lost three games where Georgia was 7+ point favorites. They were 13 point favorites over Florida, lost by 18. He consistently underachieves, loses games he shouldn't, and struggles in games that shouldn't even be close. 2013? 2 wins vs ranked opponents, 3 losses to ranked teams (with two losses to unranked teams). 2012? 2 wins, 2 losses versus ranked teams (and a questionable play call to not spike the ball against Alabama in the SEC Championship) Between 2008 & 2012, Georgia was 8-17 against ranked teams. |

I don't have cable, can't watch, but I'm looking at the web site live updates. ESPN called Oregon's 4th down play a one-yard gain & first down. After review, they updated the status to show MSU ball, but the video replay (a 20 second clip) had the announcers seeming to call it for Oregon, when the player's knee was clearly down before the ball - no gain. I'm off to bed. Good games today. B!G has performed respectably today (except maybe the two new teams from out east ). EsecPN clearly has an agenda. Regardless of what some people here say. SEC is so great, so powerful, so arrogant, that they get an entire column in the Washington Post today, after collectively and individually shitting the bed yesterday.
Link. It's pretty fluffy, but then, such was the SEC schedule yesterday. If the Southeastern Conference isn’t more careful, it will have to rummage through the attic and find some humility.
It hasn’t practiced much of that across the last decade as it has thundered over the footballing country — wreaking envy, resentment, obsession, fatigue, bad vibes and accusations of (oh, no!) media bias — with seven national titles and a rollicking hubris. Some have found this grating; others have found it justified. After Saturday, even those who found it justified have to surmise it might have become farcical. View Quote On any given Saturday... I mean, the polls are nothing but popularity contests, and the SEC is very popular. Ergo, 10 ranked SEC teams. Is Auburn better than Wisconsin? No. But which one was top 10 and which one was unranked? Which one took care of business, and got major game time for 2nd & 3rd string players, and which barely escaped with a desperate, last-ditch win? I'm not an SEC hater. But I'm one who thinks the hubris in that conference is entirely unjustified. They have great, great teams at the top, but the rest are consistently overrated. |

Stats that matter
1. 149: Points scored by Ole Miss in its first two games. Ole Miss is the first SEC team to score 70 points or more in back-to-back games and the first in any conference to do so since Houston in 1968. 2. 1-101: Record for FCS teams against AP top-10 teams since the FBS/FCS split in 1978, after Auburn came from behind to beat Jacksonville State in overtime. The lone victory by an FCS team was Appalachian State's upset of No. 5 Michigan at the Big House in 2007. 3. 11: Yards of offense for FCS member Howard in its 76-0 loss at Boston College. The Bison had 4 passing yards on two completions and 7 rushing yards on 28 attempts. That is the fewest yards allowed by an FBS team in the past 20 years. 4. 134: Points scored by Georgia Tech in its first two games, after the Yellow Jackets defeated FCS member Alcorn State in Week 1 and Tulane 65-10 on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets joined the 1992 Florida State team as the only ACC squads to score 65 points or more in consecutive games. If your D is undisciplined and can't/won't maintain gap control then GT will finish with 450+ yards on the ground. Linebackers need to stay on their feet and shed blockers while maintaining their assignment. If they can consistently do that then Tech can be shut down. I hate watching the triple option more than a couple times a year but it's definitely an interesting mental exercise for everyone involved. The other option is to simply score more points than they do. |

We will gladly trade you Mark Richt... 8-10 wins gets you to the fucking Peach Bowl. Or whatever. Capital One Bowl? THAT should be the frustration for uga fans. Richt is great at underachieving consistently. |

They lost to a great team and beat a bad one. I'd give it a few more weeks before moving them up but they look like they are trending that way. MSU definitely deserves #4 more than Baylor. That will get sorted out vs. OSU in November anyways (win or lose). BYU deserves in. Auburn....will probably still be top 20. Because...... I thought the polls came out Monday |
