Local sports radio was saying something about DFW airport shutting things down tonight due to weather.

Only caught part of what they were talking about.

Afternoon and evening, yes. Think Grapefruits and softballs. Dont rule out the tornado threat but large hail is very likley.

The conditions aren't right for a massive outbreak.

Pay attention to the weather,  but the chances of YOU getting hit by a tornado today are astronomical.

classic car in the garage, kids home early from school, lights and shit charged, blankets covering other cars, I think we're about as ready as we're gonna be... sucks to not be able to have some beers and watch this roll through, I kinda want to have my wits about me. or at least not have to pee while i'm cowering in the pantry.

I have seen maybe 60 + ish tornados in my day. I have seen softball sized hail maybe a half a dozen times. Find a car wash or other covered venue and set up for the show. Get some radar data and set up out in front of it.

In a pinch I have used large trees to partially shield my vehicle, or the opposite side of a structure, parked up close to it to avoid the hail bombs. I was in a small town in TX panhandle in 2013 when I saw sideways baseball hail, no joke. Some poor bastard pulled up attempting to shield his vehicle where we were parked under cover, no room left, the rear of his vehicle and glass was destroyed. It was amazing to watch.

Brad Barton said the forecast has changed and the bad stuff is delayed. Hopefully that’s a good thing. Less heat should mean less energy.

Its very hard to predict the exact area where hail will be an issue. Some swath within the storm(s) path/track. If you experience any at your exact location, it will be luck or lack thereof.

Think of making... well since this is focused on TX for the most part and many here are from TX, a pot of chili. Now in the end after making chili you got chili. If you start drinking a few beers and not paying attention to the recipe it may not be your best pot. No tornados, no hail, but a bowl of chili or, severe storms. The ingredients and their timeline need to be spot on to get maximum effect.

Looks like the hail won't hit DFW until around midnight now.

That's good news as a lot of the energy should dissipate by then due to some cooling after dark.

I'd be tickled if we didn't get much other than the outflow winds from the cells collapsing as they approach the Metroplex.
