I have no desire for an EV, but if I did, I would exclusively be looking at Tesla. The people that do want an EV are already buying them, and they're buying Tesla.

So of the 70 million Vehicles sold worldwide in a year, only 1-2 million are EVs?
And they think ICE vehicles will be gone in 10 years. |

Musk is going to go down as another Henry Ford. His gigpress process is changing the way automobiles are built, it's not just that they are EV's but that he can produce the chassis structure of the model 3 refresh as just two investment castings and the battery pack. MUCH cheaper than welding together 150-200 steel stampings that all other automakers use to produce cars. The bad part of this is trying to fix these cars after a crash is going to be very expensive as trying to straighten an aluminum casting after it gets bent is very difficult and very prone to failure. The proper way to do it would be to replace the casting, but this is also very expensive in labor costs to swap all the suspension parts etc.

A year or two before that, I think. They stand to make a mint with the Megapack. It's absolutely necessary with wind and solar and Tesla's ramping up production of them. Tesla makes money on the front end selling them and they have software for them that buys electricity to charge them at the lowest rates of the day and releases the electricity at the highest rates of the day. |

Most people around here work for one of the big three or are dependent on them for their livelihood directly or indirectly. I am seeing TONS of teslas, more every day. Im all in Tesla. I even reduced my TSP contribution back down to 5% to free up cash to buy more T stock.
Not only will Tesla rule the auto industry by 2030 Elon deserves my support for what he has done for free speech. Hell he just asked on X if Kamala Harris can even find the southern border on a map! Huge balls!!! |

What Tesla did right (or at least learned from their mistakes) was to control sourcing and build it from the ground up.
It has taken them a few years to streamline the body manufacturing process. It used to be ober 35 parts to make the body. I think it is down to 10 (?). Big 3 and others are still choked by existing designs they are trying to switch over and finding they are not working out. Also, horrible leadership at all mfg plants and shitty sales/marketing. In truth, even hybrid requires a different approach... something you wont see come from the three blind mice. |

Quoted: Ford appears to have flopped hard with the mach e and the lightning so far. View Quote Ford is stupid, they should have done a cheaper small car or SUV first. A MachE is a play car not a daily driver. The Lighting is failing for 2 reasons range and too expensive for a base truck. If Ford wants to sell Lightnings start with a base F150 XL and a bigger battery. That would cover most of the tradesmen. But towing a boat, RV's or heavy loads, skip the Lightning and get a IC version. Maybe in a few years range will increase but not right now. |

The anti Tesla threads back in the day were pretty hilarious. So many people were completely convinced that nobody would ever buy an electric car, Elon would never make anything at scale, and could never compete against legacy automakers. As soon as an electric car could be profitable they would sweep in and crush that little tech nerd.
