I have no desire for an EV, but if I did, I would exclusively be looking at Tesla. The people that do want an EV are already buying them, and they're buying Tesla.

So of the 70 million Vehicles sold worldwide in a year, only 1-2 million are EVs?

And they think ICE vehicles will be gone in 10 years.

Musk is going to go down as another Henry Ford. His gigpress process is changing the way automobiles are built, it's not just that they are EV's but that he can produce the chassis structure of the model 3 refresh as just two investment castings and the battery pack. MUCH cheaper than welding together 150-200 steel stampings that all other automakers use to produce cars. The bad part of this is trying to fix these cars after a crash is going to be very expensive as trying to straighten an aluminum casting after it gets bent is very difficult and very prone to failure. The proper way to do it would be to replace the casting, but this is also very expensive in labor costs to swap all the suspension parts etc.

There are currently 200,000 light electric vehicles registered in Texas. ERCOT forecasts that EVs will represent 4% of all vehicles registered in Texas by 2029. They will draw 6TW of load that year. 900MW of peak load.

A year or two before that, I think.

They stand to make a mint with the Megapack. It's absolutely necessary with wind and solar and Tesla's ramping up production of them.
Tesla makes money on the front end selling them and they have software for them that buys electricity to charge them at the lowest rates of the day and releases the electricity at the highest rates of the day.

I live in the Detroit area. You know, the motor city? Most people around here work for one of the big three or are dependent on them for their livelihood directly or indirectly. I am seeing TONS of teslas, more every day. I know quite a few personally who work for big 3 automakers who won’t buy their companies cars with their own money. Sure, they will drive one if given one as a company car with free insurance but they spend their own money on teslas.

It’s a lot different market than a year ago. Traded my S for a new Model 3 Performance in 2021. Kept it a year and got rid of it for what I paid. The msrp had increased in 2022 so it was cheaper and available for buyers, orders were backed up. Now a new one is less than it was in 2021.

Tiny reactors already exist.  I know I've read about them here and in other articles.

One small sealed reactor (the size of a walk-in cooler) can produce enough power for a small city 50k homes.

Makes sense because Ford is an old bloated company so of course their vehicles would be bloated with shit as well.  They have to make sure all of those political boxes are checked when they build a new vehicle.  Meanwhile Tesla is a new lean, mean, and innovative machine that isn't beholden to anyone because the establishment already hates them so they can build their vehicles with minimal bullshit and steamroll the establishment favorites.  The big three simply can't and will never be able to compete with Tesla unless they rebuild their companies from the ground up or destroy them using political tools.  It's like in WW1 when the French Calvary was going up against German machine guns.

Tesla absolutely has an advantage with purpose-built, highly integrated components:

vs.

a rat's nest of plumbing to integrate a bunch of stuff out of the parts bin:

What Tesla sucks at is building the rest of the car.  Horrible panel gaps and other build quality problems that the Big 3 had solved by the 1930's.

What Tesla did right (or at least learned from their mistakes) was to control sourcing and build it from the ground up.

It has taken them a few years to streamline the body manufacturing process. It used to be ober 35 parts to make the body. I think it is down to 10 (?).

Big 3 and others are still choked by existing designs they are trying to switch over and finding they are not working out.

Also, horrible leadership at all mfg plants and shitty sales/marketing.

In truth, even hybrid requires a different approach... something you wont see come from the three blind mice.

Ford is stupid, they should have done a cheaper small car or SUV first. A MachE is a play car not a daily driver.
The Lighting is failing for 2 reasons range and too expensive for a base truck.

If Ford wants to sell Lightnings start with a base F150 XL and a bigger battery. That would cover most of the tradesmen.

But towing a boat, RV's or heavy loads, skip the Lightning and get a IC version. Maybe in a few years range will increase but not right now.

The anti Tesla threads back in the day were pretty hilarious. So many people were completely convinced that nobody would ever buy an electric car, Elon would never make anything at scale, and could never compete against legacy automakers. As soon as an electric car could be profitable they would sweep in and crush that little tech nerd.
