Oh man a dedicated sticky thread for Heat? I've found a home! I've never paid to join an online forum but now...this. Holy crap!

Somebody asked why Neil didn't just hire out the hit on Waingro. Honor man, Neil was all about honor and discipline. He was getting away with the girl and the cash, Van Zandt was dead, he'd done all he could do. Then he gets the call on Waingro's location and you see him thinking about just letting it go and getting out. Watch De Niro work that scene. No way he wasn't going to turn the car around. That's what Vincent (Pacino) liked so much about him.

I also love the scene hospital waiting room where Vincent gets the call that Neil is still in town. His wife cuts him loose and he just flies down that big stairway truly happy. A hunter through and through.

Only three robbers went into the bank, though. That's 88lbs per robber. Still not unreasonable for a short walk to the vehicle, although I am sure it was slowing them down once the gunfight began.

I've got a totally seperate question from the movie.

The initial armored car robbery takes place in the morning, before rush hour traffic. Maybe 7:15am or so. Det. Hannah doesn't arrive on the scene until after dark, though. At that time, the crime scene techs are just examining the murder weapon and bodies. Why did it take him so long to get there, and why isn't the crime scene progressing more towards wrap-up by then? Even near the winter equinox, there must have been at least a 10-hour time lapse between the crime and his arrival.

Better late than never.
I picked up the special edition DVD since it was all I could find. I rarely watch the extra disc but this one was well worty it.
All the shooting scenes were done on the range with live ammo before they were shot with blanks for the filming and the good guys and bad guys trained seperatly and with live ammo.

If you read any of Andy McNab's books you see a sefinate style that shows up in the movie.

It's an add-on. I think I'd prefer it after hearing the Heat version now. It's not difficult to strip just audio from an MPEG video though.

Say what you will about Michael Mann movies, but they always have very realistic gun play. In my opinion his movies, Saving Private Ryan, and Way of the Gun have the most realistic gun play in Hollywood.

I haven't had a chance to check but is it true that the big dialogue scene between Deniro and Pacino never occurred. That they both shot there scenes separately and they never both appear in the same scene at once? My sister says that but I don't know.

If you listen to the commntary, Mann says that the "coffee conversation" between DeNiro and Pacino was so well done that they did it on one take, no splices. Mann compliments both of them on being exceptional professionals, able to know exactly where the camera is and how to play the scence correctly the very first time. He illustrates this by drawing attention to their head movements as they talk to each other.

I love the way how through the entire scene Neil is completely ready to throw down in an instant, if it comes to that. He never stops searching and scanning while he sits there. I thought Det. Hanna was more relaxed because he initiated the contact and because he knew Neil was too professional and smart to kill a cop in front of witnesses.

Appears to be a Mossberg 590.

I believe it is a Mossberg 500A (at least it looks very similar to mine). The 500 and 590 are VERY similar. The 590 is a beefier version, that I believe was used by the Marine Corp, of the 500. The 590 has a stainless (or at least shiney) bolt visible in the ejection port and has a bayonet lug that will fit the M16 bayonet.

Just finished watching it and I always remebered Pacino`s FNC being F/A, but it was a semi. I guess in my mind since everything else was F/A that I remember his being so too. Man this flick is sweet! Someone needs to start making some damn US built FNCs for us Heat fans!!!

With this being such a great movie and so realistic, i cant believe the slide didnt move on neils pistol when he shot Waingro. How does that work in movies, with having all these real weapons and then having that one that didnt recoil? Just some are props some arent?

I've always wondered that.
