The Super Chicken! It blows head gaskets for breakfast, IIRC. I almost bought one used...I absolutely LOVED that car, until I took it to my cousin (...who was a professional mechanic) and had him look it over good. Dear GOD, what I almost stepped in. Thankfully I didn't buy it. View Quote I remember replacing a head gasket on one in the 90's. It didn't just pop the gasket, it also took a small chunk out of the deck between two cylinders. |

Probably the most amazing vehicle Ford sold at the time was the F-150.
300 6 cylinder with the standard 5spd/dual tanks(there was a fire at Ford's tranny plant, autos were extremely rare!),damned thing had like 600 plus miles range. Mustang, $14-16k out the door, very nicely equipped. T-bird was a car with a helluva smooth ride,as was the CV. Taurus SHO, only had one show up at the dealership, helluva car! First American 4 door sedan that could hold it's own against BMW and Mercedes. |

My dad has an 88 with the 5.0
I had a 95 with the 4.6 V8. One wheeled burn outs were spectacular. There's a 88 Turbo Coupe sitting 2 blocks from me right now. No cancer which is pretty good for WI. |

Wow, it had 215 hp and 315 torque... what a monster... View Quote Judging a 25+ year old car with modern eyes is kind of dumb. At the time, those were respectable numbers. 1989 Mustang 5.0 had 225HP and a fully loaded 89 Camaro IROC-Z with the 350ci TBI motor had 240 HP. For that time in history, the TBSC a good looking car with decent power, handling and overall ride. |

I remember the SC, the SHO, the SVO and the Merkur XR4Ti all out at the same time at the local dealer. I had an '86 XR4Ti that I really liked and was a sharp car in its day. I recently saw an '86 SVO on Craigslist and really needed to talk myself out of it. Had a '85 I bought used in '91 and loved that car. It wasn't fast by today's standards but quick for its time for sure, the electronics in it were buggy as shit. Maybe Ford borrowed Lucas' stuff but it was a fun car. I had a sorority chick in college who thought it was a Masarati, (I corrected her after I had known her for quite some time,) but there were very, very few of them around. It was very much an 'exotic' car but a Mustang GT of that era was faster but where the XR4Ti excelled was handling. |

I had a 1996 Ford Thunderbird LX that I purchased new after graduating from college. The intake manifold blew on it, the transmission had constant problems, and the rear end had to be replaced twice. In 1999 I traded it in on a 2000 F150 while the dealership was waiting on parts to repair the engine for the second time.
EDIT: I still think the SC was cool despite the problems that I had with mine. |
