Pigpen fan here too. Shame he had to join the 27 club. He was the only member of the group that didn't take drugs, but he sure made up for it with his liquor. Cool pic too, never saw that one. That reminds me of a funny story about him in one of the books I read about the Dead.

Grateful Dead manager Rock Scully has an hilarious description in his book of the Dead's stay in Philadelphia on their first visit to the Electric Factory. The Dead were housed in a "hotel" that appeared to be a house of prostitution on top of a blues bar. The boys in the band were very unsettled by this, and forced Scully to find students willing to put them up for the week--except for Pigpen, who loved the place and spent the whole time hanging out and playing blues at the bar. Since the Grateful Dead continued to work with the Electric Factory throughout their entire career, presumably better accommodations were provided in later visits.

I think they were very good with Bruce Hornsby.

Donna was the absolute worse. Vince Welnick was pretty bad too.

Saw one show in AZ spring of '94, I was in heaven.

Listening to it right now, it is pretty bad.

'77 era is my favorite along with Pigpen.

Can't stand Donna however.

One of the best bands ever.

Saw them many times. Soldier field in a thunderstorm in about 1990 was incredible!

Listen to Black Muddy River. Amazing song.

I'm Uncle Sam, that's who I am; Been hidin' out in a rock and roll band.
Shake the hand that shook the hand of P.T. Barnum and Charlie Chan.
Shine your shoes, light your fuse. Can you use them ol' U.S. Blues?
I'll drink your health, share your wealth, run your life, steal your wife.

I would have to find my stash and listen to it again.

Saw my first show when I was still in elementary school. Dude a row in front of us was smoking weed. I asked what the smell was. My dad leaned over an told me while my aunt and uncle laughed. Further fest 1994 at Nissan Palvilon.

Jammed the fuck out to them in high school. As long as they are singing I'm good. Can't take the long jams.

Couple other odd things from the '94 show. Walking around the parking lot and got sprayed by some hippy chick with a water bottle. Heard my dad and uncle talking about a show they had been to before. lol

Were always one of the top grossing concert bands of the year.

Saw they a bunch of times.  The parking lot scene was always fun.  $20 to see the Dead, Dylan and Petty.

Too many songs a jams to list.  Listen to some of Dick's picks.

I'm a fan, as introduced to them by my dad.  My favorites, if I had to choose would be Uncle John's Band, Franklin's Tower, Friend of the Devil and Box of Rain.  Granted I like a lot of their songs.  I've got a t-shirt that has the bears in a forest and the front says "What do you do if you see bears in the woods?" The back of the shirt says Play Dead with the Steal Your Face skull in between the words.  It's always kind of fun to see who knows or reads it and understands.  Yes, my dad still has and drives his 1979 VW Bus (Westfalia) with pop-up camper on top.  And there are several 'deady bear' stickers on it.

Will do, appreciated.  Googled lockn', would love to go to that.  I've soured on Phish as I've aged but enjoy it in small doses.  Half those bands I've never heard of, the other half would love to see.

I got my older brother into the dead.   He went nuts and became a taper.  Started with cassettes and then to DATS...  At one time he had a DAT tape rack from floor to ceiling  that was 6' wide and completely filled.

And he doesn't mess around when it comes to audio, his mics alone had to be a few grand.

I ain't got time fo dat.
