A couple of suggestions, since, where the line is to be drawn isn't my decision so won't comment on that:
1. When people start saying there are rogue mods, listen to them. Everybody needs to get taught, account, mod, etc. we get that. But when they don't listen or the teaching moments aren't happening you get problems. The trickle down knowledge is important, and it's slow. 2. For minor offenses maybe a way to leave them in place so we can all see what the line is would help. Sorta like locking a thread but not deleting a thread. I always go in those to see what went wrong out of morbid curiosity. Deleting stuff removes useful information. Or maybe a thread roll up pinned that just has a listing of edits / actions done and what it was... Wouldn't even have to be complete but you have a mixture of folks who PUSH the rules, and a bunch that don't really know them (some of them mods) that would have a place to learn that stuff. Obviously, there are some things that gotta get deleted but zapping shit from orbit and leaving people wondering WTF happened just makes for more WTF threads. |

The problem is that if I had to guess, I would guess that 99.999% of the site's revenue comes through ad impressions in GD, which would go absolutely to shit if it were firewalled off from Google's index.
