Maybe it's ocd but I absolutely hated a short guy playing Sherlock Holmes.

Any movie with 30 year olds playing high school kids.
Either hire kids or rewrite the story for adults.

Too many to list but books that were made into movies-

Matt Damon as Jason Bourne.

Ben Afleck as Jack Ryan.

Anybody as James Bond except for Sean Connery .

That's a tough call. Baldwin was good as the young, up-and-coming marine turned Wall Street whiz kid turned analyst. Ford was perfect as the haggard, aging bureaucrat thrust into positions he really didn't want to occupy.

In other words, I believed Baldwin as the guy who would jump into the ocean to get on that boat, and I believed Ford as the "oh fuck, I'm the deputy director now?" guy.

He only worked well there because he was slathered over with the Coen's directorial genius. They made him perfect for that role.

The only reason that fucker ever got a break in Hollywood is because his uncle is Francis Ford Coppola. People hired him to suck Coppola's ass.

Cruise was the best Reacher. He could act and didn't stare off into space the whole time when he was thinking.

Will Smith as James West
I never even bothered to see the movie because I couldn't imagine anybody in that role other than Robert Conrad.
Turned out I was right.

Will Smith said that he knew the movie wasn't any good and he was embarrassed when it earned almost $50 million in its opening weekend. Years later, Smith apologized publicly to Robert Conrad (star of the original television series) and said now that he was older and more experienced, he understood Conrad's anger and criticism of the movie version, as well as Conrad's refusal to make a cameo appearance in it.

When your own Mother disapproves, you know it's hopeless.
When Will Smith asked his mother what she thought of the movie, she replied "You've done better, baby".

Jack Nicholson sucked as a mob boss in The Departed. Beta.

Also Woody Harrelson as a retired SF Army colonel and hitman in No Country for Old Men was hot poop. He looked to be about 39 and was a mild mannered slouch with horseshit body language. Anyone with those credentials in that line of work is going to be a rigidly disciplined, hard nosed MF'er and cold as ice. Woody Harrelson's eyes say "hey lets smoke a joint and listen to Jethro Tull for 3hrs". He doesn't have the eyes. Ed Harris has the eyes.

Yeah, I thought he was pretty good.  Book reacher and Amazon reacher were both calculating, but also come off as just big and dumb.  That's how reacher got the jump and surprised alot of people in the books and Amazon series.  I liked cruise as reached, but he was too small stature and a little too Ethan hunt fighting style.  Book reacher was about a bar room brawler, not bjj.

Tom Cruise has been miscast in several roles. I’d say he was far worse in both Rock of Ages (a musical of all things) and Interview With a Vampire.

Alan Ritchson as Reacher in the TV series was an even worse choice as Jack Reacher. Cruise wasn’t the best choice but at least he gave the character a personality. Ritchson’s version of Reacher comes across as a meat head with no personality.

The Reacher series on Amazon was awful.

damn,  OP was thinking the same thing I was.

Book Reacher was an Alpha Alpha - and described as such, the Apex Predator.  Sure he did use his mind, but in honesty I think his mind was a surprise after people saw him.  FWIW, while Amazon got the size right, he was still way to pretty.  Book Reacher was never described as attractive.  He scored in virtually every book - but mostly because A woman saw he was the Alpha of Alpha's and wanted to give birth to his children.  In the end, none wanted a long term, full time relationship with him.  I think only one wanted him around for more than the affair in the book.  Some might have wanted another time in the sack with him, but not a permanent relationship.  IIRC he either got married or virtually married - but that relationship only worked for annual to semi annual hook ups.
