Id love a resident geologists take on the composition of that cliff face. looks somewhat sedimentary with the horizontal striations. and looking at the recent scree pile nothing looks solid enough for me to sleep there.

My guess is that the local government decided it was easier to let an 82 year old kill himself rather than get in a legal fight with an MD over his right to kill himself.

My son who's in the surf industry in that area said the waves from that storm were HUGE, like 30' and more.

Sixteen million dollar house not ten feet away from another house. People have strange priorities.

Huh….so that’s what a house the same price as Mar-a-Lago looks like?

That house is awesome but no way would I feel safe sleeping in it.

Was visiting my mom over New Years and my daughter came with me. We went and walked right below the homes that are pictured and further up.
Grew up in area use to go to beach right up from there often to surf. |

Question...how much will the State of Kali fine the estate for polluting the ocean once it goes over???

Another thing. When that house was built there was probably a hundred yards of clearance from the cliff. I know of one main life guard tower at a state beach in North San Diego County that was red flagged, torn down and rebuilt back on solid ground. It had been there since the 60s. The cliff where it was sitting is long gone. Same type of "soil".
I have a beach house (studio apartment) in the area but not on a cliff. I do have a tsunami warning sign on the street though. |

I like the back stairway/steps to oblivion. Not a chance I would stay there.

And insurance for everyone goes up again...
Permit dept needs to pay if this tanks - not insurance. |

Quoted: Grew up on a cliff in Palos Verdes.. this was always a worry. Someone else problem now though! View Quote The family member I wrenched on vintage race cars for many years ago owns a place on Via Del Monte. They purchased it in the early 70's. A year or so later they purchased the empty lot next door. They are one of the only homes with that much land in the town. The house interior still screams 1950's.... I'm almost afraid to ask them what it's worth now. Even in the early 90's when I was there it was way out of my range... |

Big money , high risk , engineering nightmare, what a mess . Good chance they will be doing a cleanup at the cliff bottom in coming years .

Even if I ignore the recent mass wasting, I'm looking at all the open fractures, rills, and gullies along the rest of that cliff face and thinking, "Yeah, no dawg". There's no question of "if", just "when".

“It's unfortunate that he is stupid and owns a house right next to a (dirt) cliff.
Fixed it for you A stone cliff wouldn’t be a problem |

Eh. Dump a couple wheelbarrows of gravel down that slope and he'll be fine.
