Ok, so I ended up getting the General mint and white. After looking at the can for a bit I said fuck it, why not? Initial reaction was to almost spit it out because of the salty flavor and weird taste. I thought to myself "what the fuck did those assholes tell me to put in my mouth!" Stuck with it for a couple of min, and its really not half bad! I kinda almost like it! I'll check back in later with an update on the mint when I try that. View Quote General is quite salty. I think in time, you'll like it alot more and start placing orders on the interwebs for new stuff. White portions are my favorite because they are less drippy. Good luck man! Power on through those first couple of cans and know much more delicious snus is out there. |

I'm liking the mint a lot more actually. It kind of covers up the saltyness a bit, and has a decent flavor to it. The flavor doesn't exactly last very long, but it kind of goes from a super minty to a smooth tobacco flavor.

I've been using nicotine patches for over a year now. I don't miss smoking and I don't miss dipping. I really miss snus though. Jaccobbsens Extra Strong Mint Snus is the best tobacco product ever created.

I very much enjoy snus, and I currently use it on a daily basis. My go to is General mint, but I have also tried the following: Göteborgs Rapé Hjortron, Göteborgs Rapé Lingon, Islay Whisky, Olde Ving Fudge, and General G.3 Licorice Mint
I tend to stick to normal strength as the extreme is a little intense. This is probably why I transferred ownership, of the Islay Whisky, over to my boyfriend. After two minutes I could feel the nicotine claw its way through my blood vessels to set my brain ablaze. I love the mint for two reasons, it is easily accessible and I enjoy feeling the chill on my gums. So, I decided I would give the General G.3 Licorice Mint a shot, and it was pretty good. At first, I was not sure I was going to like it, as it did not seem to have much flavor. I gave it about 5 minutes and boom, the licorice crept out and the mint delivered the coolness I enjoy. Granted, the mint in the G.3 is not as profound as in the regular General mint, but it definitely does not disappoint. Olde Ving Fudge? Meh. That is all I really have to say about that. Then there is Göteborgs Rapé Hjortron, and Lingon. I am definitely digging the salty citrus from the Hjortron; my papillea take pleasure in it. The Lingon is pretty good, it has the berry flavor, but it is more of a once and a while thing. I doubt I will ever try the lös, but that is just a personal preference. I like the clean ease of being able to put the pouch in and take it out, and that is all. My boyfriend primarily uses lös and I am pretty sure some of it tries to run for freedom, but only makes it as far as his beard. Let's just say I looked in the mirror one night and thought I contracted a disease that would surely be the end of me Luckily, after some panicky hand movements and a towel, I survived. Now, if I could just purchase some of these without having to do so online, that would be lovely. Not gonna happen. So it goes... |

I use frost camel snus, regular size. I haven found a foreign one that compares in taste.

Catch Spearmint Slim White has been refreshing. It doesnt have any sting on the gums but still leaves a slight tingle. Its changed my mind a little about the mint snus.
I'm thinking about trying the Thunder Cola on my next order. |

Well, I figured I'd report back on a few new snus flavors I've tried recently. Maybe give y'all some new stuff to try.
First up is the Skruff Slim Extra Strong Fresh Cranberry White. Damn that's a long name! From the description "Skruf Slim Xtra Strong Fresh Cranberry White Portion! A fresh and extra strong slim version of the popular Cranberry White Portion, for a better and more discreet feeling under your lip - plus extra strength! White Portions = less runny with a pro-longed flavor release." Anyway, it doesn't really taste like a cranberry so much. It does have some kind of berry flavor, but not much. It burns a little at first, kind of like mint. Since Skruff doesn't list the actual mg of nicotine content, I will say it's on par with all of their other extra stark offerings. I found that it also made my breath smell funky. I passed it around to some of my mint chewing buddies who didn't care for it either. Oh well. I am a big fan of the unflavored extra strong slim white portions and love the strong los. My favorite los so far. But this stuff wasn't for me being a plain tobacco flavor fan. Buy a can to try it, but I wouldn't buy a whole roll at first. Next is The Lab 13 Formula+ Extra Strong Slim Portion. This stuff is pretty awesome! I wont try to describe the flavor other than it's sweet. It's strong too! From the description "A new and exciting snus, with a spicy tobacco character and flavors from sweet tropical fruit and red berries, also some almond and citrus! An extra strong portion-snus, with a rich tobacco character and a touch of exhilarant energy-drink". I will say I don't have a clue what energy drink is in it, but I like it. It packs a punch and says 20mg on the nicotine. I put one in before dinner and had to toss it because it was too much just before eating. However, when 12 rolled around today, I popped one in. The flavor last a long time and so does the nic hit. To me it's a kin to vodka and red bull. I'm not a fan of the flavored stuff like I said, but this will stay in rotation for a while. Buy 2 cans of this stuff to try! Lit_Ember: Good to hear from a lady's point of view on snus and hear your take on what you've tried. Thank you! Never heard of Olde Ving Fudge. Guess I'll have to track it down for a try one of these days. Being left with only means to order this stuff online is the only bane of snusing. I found a 3 star retailer close to me. One that's supposed to have more stuff and know more about snus. He really only had General brand stuff. However, he pretty much had everything general sells. Maybe use the snus locator and find a local guy that will order some stuff for you to help out with the cost. |
|
General G.3 Normal Strength Mint Slim White Portion is a somewhat mild mint. I found that it only lasts 20-30 minutes for me and then it seems to fade quickly. Its not very salty at all in comparison to most of the other snus I've tried. There's also something else there that I can't quite put my finger on as the mint starts to fade, it reminds me of earl grey tea a little.

RWC: Sorry for my delay with the de nada. Some life events tend to trigger halts in my internal workings leaving me with the ability to only attend to the simplest of things. Unfortunately, the social/online world does not fall into that category
I am happy to provide input, when I can. It just seems a shame having to order it overseas, especially when you just want to try something different and not let it go to waste when it turns out not to be to your liking. A local place will be sought out. Thanks! |

Well, thanks to Mason introducing me to snus, I have expanded my tobacco search. I have always been fascinated by dry snuff. The kind you sniff. It's interesting to say the least!
If any of you have thought about it, try it. I actually really like it so far. With some practice, I have gotten pretty good at doing it. Believe me, it's out there and no harder to get than snus. I ordered from Mr. Snuff. Lots of flavors and accessories to choose from. However, it mainly comes from the UK and for whatever reason, they use Royal Mail. It's a kin to usps, but much slower. Weird with all the modern companies they would still use snail mail. I had one container explode during shipping. The company said I can ship the broken container back and they would replace it. Funny, but I asked if I could use any shipper like ups and they said sure. So they can accept from any carrier, but still use a crappy slow one. I guess I'm just spoiled getting my stuff in 3 days! Not trying to derail the thread, but if y'all have ever thought about trying it and would like to discuss it, I'll help any way I can. Right now I'm using Fubar Grunt and my favorite Skruff Los daily. The dry snuff is an instant hit first thing in the morning followed by a pinch to keep me going. Best. Combo. Ever! |

[Dr. Nick] Hi Everybody! [/Dr. Nick]
First, big thanks to RWC, who sent a care package with some assorted cans of Oden's and Thunder portion snus and Grov lös, a sweet blinged out Mudjug, and one of these killer General waterproof cans. I want to point out that Mudjug is offering some good looking, limited edition Confederate-themed jugs, if you dig that sort of thing. The jug is damn handy, and I keep it next to my favorite chillout spot in the apartment. Thank you again, RWC! I'll be doing a full write-up on the Oden's and Thunder cans soon, but a few quick words: GOD DAMN that Oden's stuff is powerful! Methamphetasnus...seriously. The cans I tried were all either Extra Strong or Extreme, and my current favorite among them is the Oden's Vanilla Extreme. It's got a depth of flavor that may be getting overpowered by the super high nic content in the tobacco flavored types. These are high-powered breakfast, lunch and "2:30 PM feeling" portions. The waterproof General can is every bit as badass as it looks. If you're considering one, pull the trigger - I don't think you'll be disappoint. Scarpa: I'm glad you're digging the General. Like RWC mentioned, that snus is a bit salty, but you'll notice it a lot less after a week or so. That smooth tobacco flavor you described from the General Mint is what you should expect from the General White, once your taste buds adjust. I'm curious to know what you think about it now, since some time has gone by. harleyrkc: The cherry in that Americana is intriguing. Based on what you said, I'll add a test can to my next order! Please let us know what you think about the Thunder Coola, it's an interesting concept. The G.3 Mint Slim tasting like Earl Grey makes a lot of sense; Earl Grey contains Bergamot flavoring, and lots of snuses have some Bergamot going on. Stantonizm: Out of curiosity, what made you move away from the snus and on to nic patches full time? I'm not at all asking to be a dick, or to sound like I'm challenging your actions. It's just that I've found snus to be WAY more effective as a nic replacement product than patches. Before I found snus, I gave patches more than a few chances, and they could never rise to the challenge. Lit_Ember: Great to have a female snuser participating here, welcome and thanks for posting! I enjoy each of the Göteborgs Rapé Hjortron, Göteborgs Rapé Lingon, Islay Whisky on occasion, and I'm really psyched for the Islay lös. Hopefully our .gov removes head from ass and green-lights more snus availability in the US. From what I've read, each product needs to be individually cleared before it's OK for sale here, and it will (allegedly) be years before we'll have many of the online options available here. The Swedes also want to have a solid, existing snus market here before they put more of their resources into the US market. We can also help things along a little bit, by contacting your Congressional reps to remind them of two important things: 1. Freedom applies to tobacco products. 2. Their .gov job is always on the line. Votes are ammunition, and we can always find someone else to represent us. Fire away! Waldo: ...Camel snus. What do you like about the Camel Frost that's missing in the Swedish product? Which Swedish snuses have you tried? FreeFloater: Have you signed up at the General site? They will supply you with numerous coupons to combat the price increases. They're more concerned with "asses in the seats" right now than maximizing profits. More US snus users translates to more $$ for them in the long term, and they know it. A question about the lozenges: how do they compare to snus in relation to cost? RWC: I need to throw a can of that Skruf lös on my next order. I've read nothing but good things about it, and really dig that they now make all of their snus with organic tobacco. Do you think The Lab 13 would be a good snus for people switching over from flavored American dip? Regarding the snuff, both you and PNWRN (on page one) have now mentioned it. BTW, that's totally NOT a derail. Technically snus translated to English is snuff. You are on topic sir! Whether you want to reply in this thread, or create another specifically, I'm curious how snuff compares to snus in relation to the production process. Is it as safe as snus is reported to be? Some things I'll be posting here soon, as time allows: #PlutoFuckingMatters |

Mason, Glad that stuff made it ok. I was starting to worry!
I know I said Grov was gonna be my favorite and it may seem like I'm going back on that, but Skruff Los is sooo good. It's definitely more juicy and I think it stays together better. I like the taste of Grov a lot, but it's not strong enough in my opinion and it seems to fall apart easily. I started leaving my Skruff at home where I would be close to a sink to spit it out. Let's face it, los is messy. However, it rides with me every day now. It's good for me also in the fact that now when I order, I only order Skruff los and extra stark slim white portions. I really like the fact that it's all natural as well. The lab stuff is great if your a fan of the sweeter flavored dips. I started dipping skoal cherry many years ago and got tired of the sweetness so I can't compare it to modern sweet flavors. It's good for me in spurts. On to the dry/nasal snuff. I haven't been able to find much other than it's originated in Brazil in the 1500's and no conclusive evidence has been found that it causes cancer. There is a WHO study, but I can't find the actual study. And Poschl, a snuff company, has said it's safe. Kinda like Marlboro saying cigs were safe! Anyway, here's what I dug up. see WHO IARC Working Group on the Evaluation of Carcinogenic Risks to Humans (2007): Smokeless Tobacco and some Tobacco-specific N-Nitrosamines, IARC monographs on the evaluation of carcinogenic risks to humans, Vol. 89, Lyon 2007, page 366. You have to put in your age I guess. http://www.poeschl-tobacco.com/start.php?url=/nasal-snuff-health.html |

IIRC theres been one recorded case of cancer likely caused by nasal snuff and that was a woman that was putting it in her ear. Go figure. Stick with European manufacturers and you're fine as far as ingredients go,
though there is also some good Indian snuff. Try some Dholakia White if you want to blow the top of your head off. Very strong. I'm a fan of 5 Photo . Like having a head shop in your nose. Bernards Schmalzer snuffs are good too. If you haven't already take a look at Toque snuff. Roderick comes up with some amazing snuffs. http://www.toquesnuff.com/ The sampler selection is still a great deal. Berwick Brown and Rose are my favorites there. There is some pretty dodgy Asian stuff out there though. Its said that during snuffs heyday in Europe that the lower classes (read laborers) began using tobacco in the form of snus because they didn't have their hands free to be constantly snuffing as the elite class did. |
|
I'd like to hear back on a few more flavors. I just got my second order from Snus Central. I let out my FSA side and asked for them to throw in a can of Probe Whiskey, which they did to my surprise. I guess fifty cans is worth a freebee.
Thunder Coola was a little mild but definitely a cola flavor. I can't say much more about that one except that I'll keep it in the rotation. General Onyx has been a treat. I cant quite place the flavor except to say there's hints of lemon and pepper. I found it to be an odd combination at first but halfway through the can its really grown on me. |
|
General wintergreen Snus user here. $1.99 a can at the gas station in town. There was a two day period of adjustment going from Camel snus to General. I liked Camel more, but the General was over a dollar a can cheaper. Now I really like General and the Camel brand tastes terrible. It's like discovering good beer for the first time. I'll never go back to Camel, even if it cost less.

There's been quite a bit of talk in this thread about Swedish snus being exponentially safer than cigarettes, and there are more than a few of us who have successfully used snus to quit smoking. Snus has helped me kick a two pack/day, 26 year cigarette habit, and I have no interest in smoking cigarettes again. Ever. So, snus has helped me - a lot. And snus has helped some of you, too.
Now I must ask you to return the favor, and help Swedish snus. WTF, you say? How can we help snus? Swedish Match, the parent company behind General, The Lab, Grov, Göteborgs and many other snus brands, has submitted to the US FDA an application for reclassifying General snus as a Modified Risk Tobacco Product. If Swedish Match is successful in getting General snus classified as an MRTP, they will no longer be required to place factually incorrect and scientifically debunked cancer and oral health warning stickers on the snus cans. Currently, if you go buy a can of General at 7-11, your snus can will be adorned with one of these four warning stickers:
That last one is bolded because it's the only one that's true. The other three are all bullshit. If you order snus on the Interwebs and have it sent to the US, you'll find that your snus cans are similarly dressed with stickers. It's easy to see why Swedish Match would want to fight to have these warnings removed - Swedish snus is made and marketed as a safe alternative to cigarettes! In order to have General snus labeled an MRTP by the FDA, the law requires that an applicant demonstrate that their product, as it is actually used by consumers, will:
So what can you do to help? It's easy - type up a note and submit it to the FDA. We are at the beginning of a second, 30-day public comment period where all Americans can register their view on Swedish snus. If Swedish snus has helped you in any way, PLEASE visit this website and tell the .gov what you think. Tell them your story, tell them if Swedish snus helped you quit smoking, and tell them specifically the ways your life and health have improved because you switched to Swedish snus. Even if you've never smoked, or if you came to snus as an alternative to dip, or if it just sounded like something you wanted to try out, make your statement and be heard. This is very important for the future of our favorite niche tobacco product. And, if Swedish Match finds out that they have a vocal, supportive customer base here in the US, they are more likely to introduce other snuses here. Good things will not happen for us if we silently allow the FDA to continue to spread misinformation about snus. You may have noticed that I've been careful to specifically mention General snus and Swedish snus in this post, and there's a reason for that: General is the only Swedish Match brand that is available over the counter to American customers, and it is the only brand of Swedish snus that is currently attempting to get MRTP status. Each snus brand that wants to be labeled as an MRTP by the FDA will have to submit their own application. This means that, even though Grov, Nick & Johnny and Ettan are all under the Swedish Match umbrella and are produced using the GOTHIATEK standard, they will have to submit applications and evidence individually. When I say "Swedish snus," I am purposely excluding American snus from Camel, Skoal, etc. The differences in production and purpose of use between Swedish and American snuses are such that they should never be grouped together in a discussion. To be clear, Swedish snus is a full-on cigarette replacement product. American snus, on the other hand, is only meant to be a compliment to cigarettes. A perfect example of this comes from Camel, whose snus slogan was: "When you can't smoke, SNUS." Swedish snus contains much more free nicotine than American snus, which further supports the idea that the intended use of the Swedish vs. US products differs significantly. As I write this, only two people have submitted comments to the .gov - let's kick this in the ass and get that number a lot higher! Swedish snus, because... |

Mason:
Will hit that up tomorrow for sure. I'd like to not have to pay 30 bucks for shipping every time! On a side note, my last shipment from snus central had a roll that was not right. It was skruf, but not the right one. I wasn't upset, just wanted the one I ordered. Dropped them an email. Easy peasy. Had my correct roll in the mail the same day all for free and let me keep the incorrect roll! Awesome customer service! Just an fyi, snus central is cheaper than buy snus. Same customer service, just cheaper. They do have a 5 roll, one roll half price deal but I'm not sure it's worth it. Docbull: Still trying to wrap my brain around what you said. So usps can't seize Royal mail deliveries? When royal mail gets to the states, usps does final delivery. It takes a while, but it gets here. Mr Snuff is who I ordered from. So far the Viking dark is my favorite. Couldn't find a dragon brand snuff. I'd love to know what it is to try it! I got a nice collection going so far. At the rate I use it, it's about 2 years worth. |

Something I'd like to add to supplement my earlier post:
In order to have General snus labeled an MRTP by the FDA, the law requires that an applicant demonstrate that their product, as it is actually used by consumers, will:
View Quote One excellent thing to point out that's specific to item number two: please make sure to mention the used portion compartment on the top of your portion snus can. Having this compartment lets snusers dispose of a used portion in a sanitary way that will not pollute the environment, unlike what smokers typically do with their cigarette butts. When you visit the site to leave your comments, know that even the little things will matter. You are permitted to upload images with your remarks, and I've provided one below. Please save it to your computer and upload it with your pro-snus statements. Let's make ourselves look like clean, responsible tobacco consumers. And FFS, if you toss your used portions like cigarette butts, knock it off! Do you guys have any thoughts on information that we should try to get across to the .gov? |
|
Anybody else write to the .gov about Swedish snus and getting it classified as a Modified Risk product? We're running out of time to get this done; the deadline is 11:59 PM on August 31, 2015!
I just landed a decent camera (my Droid potato sucks at taking pics), so I'll have some cool stuff for you all to check out soon. Hope y'all are doing well! |
|
Bump as I enjoy a Skruf extra stark slim white portion with my coffee.
|
|
Switched from smoking to dipping because of harm reduction. Dipped for 15 years. Then 2 1/2 years ago , finally quit all tobacco, and I've built 2 ar's and bought 2 pistols with money that I saved.
