Quoted: Quoted: How in the hell is OTC cough medicine and sprite mixed together going to get you high? And WTH is DXM? That's what I was wondering. DXM is the active ingredient in OTC cough syrup. It's not a narcotic; it's a dissociative hypnotic type drug. In small doses it suppresses the cough reflex, but if you take a lot of it it gives you a weird trippy experience, like you're looking through a tv screen. You can buy the pure stuff online so you wouldn't have to drink bottle of robotussin. At least you used to be able to.

Everyone arguing about the gross description of St. Skittles liver on p. 4 of the autopsy report is missing the microscopic description on p. 6.
The liver is listed as having "no diagnostic abnormality". That means there was no fatty change. His liver was normal. Repeat: Trayvon's liver was normal. It had no pathologic change. Pathologists diagnose fatty change microscopically, not grossly (with the naked eye). We mention it if the liver looks yellow or greasy at the time of autopsy, but the diagnosis is made microscopically. |

Postmortem testing for most clinical parameters (such as liver function tests) is mildly to extremely unreliable. Things change postmortem, sometimes in unpredictable ways, nearly always sufficiently to make reliance on them a hazardous business. We do toxicology testing all the time, so there is a wealth of data to establish fairly solid ranges for therapeutic, toxic and lethal concentrations. Conversely, there are no solid normal ranges in dead people for most clinical lab tests. Concentrations of some things tend to rise after death, while others fall. Virtually never is that rise or fall linear. The unreliability is compounded by variables in postmortem interval, sampling site, etc. There are a few things that have utility in postmortem samples, like glucose in vitreous humor specimens, but even it is only useful for very elevated concentrations of glucose. Even the vaunted vitreous potassium so beloved of TV shows and crime novelists is, like their equally beloved gunshot residue testing, at best useless and more often harmful. End threat derailment... |

Okay I did not read the rest of the thread, and I don't know who started the whole thing with thinking he was making lean, but I HIGHLY doubt it. Granted, lean is a southern thing, mainly TX to be exact, but I grew up in Dayton where a lot of people liked to do it...and I never once heard it being used with Robotusin or any other over the counter shit.
It is made with promethazine(sp?), which is a prescription heavy duty cough syrup that contains codine, which is also found in vicadon. Thats what gets people fucked up. Unless shit has changed in the past 10 years, lean is not made with over the counter shit. That shit makes you feel spacey and weird after just one table spoon, who the fuck would drink a whole bottle of it? It doesn't change the facts of the case at all, and I 100% agree with the verdict, but I wouldnt recomend basing your arguments on the "lean" thing. |
