Cable/fiber optic is expensive.  It costs about 5x more to connect FiOS to a house than to build a small cell tower to provide 5G service.
Even if costs were the same, consumers want wireless.

I'm sure the pricing has nothing to do with the size of our country and the cost of building infrastructure throughout the US.

I think the US might also have a higher average salary than some of the countries.

I pay $50/month for my cell service that is damn fast and very reliable throughout most of the US.

"If RF radiation is absorbed in large enough amounts by materials containing water, such as food, fluids, and body tissues, it can produce heat. This can lead to burns and tissue damage. Although RF radiation does not cause cancer by damaging DNA in cells the way ionizing radiation does, there has been concern that some forms of non-ionizing radiation might have biological effects that could result in cancer in some circumstances."

Studies are inconclusive means that 'we couldn't give the people paying for the study the answer they wanted'.  It means that there isn't any evidence that RF can cause cancer.

The amount of heat needed to damage DNA would also simply fry your brain.  The stupidity level of the average human could not mask that.

American companies dropped the ball on 5G. Cisco and the other should own that industry.

But it looks like China will own it, like the Japanese owned the RAM industry in the 80's. The Chinese govt., like Japanese govt., subsidized the 5G tech companies with $ billions so they could control the market. Cisco and other US tech companies received no subsidies. They do it all on their own. They are at fault for dropping the 5G ball, but with Chinese govt. investing $ billions in 5G companies like Huawei, they didn't stand a chance. Huawei won't even disclose their true relationship with the chicom govt. and how much of their company is actually owned by the chicoms. Chinese capitalism is a farce. There is no free trade, no fairness in our relationship with China. Huawei products should be banned from the United States.

Verizon is already advertising an unlimited 5G base station for home use for about $70/mo.  I'm sure they'll reserve the right to throttle super-heavy users after some point, which is perfectly understandable, but it can be a lot more than the data limits on 4G.

Wireless should solve this exact issue.  It's a lot cheaper to run a fiber backbone between broadcast towers than to run cable to each individual home.

And fiber has gotten a lot cheaper in recent years.

If it works reliably, it might.  I already have to switch devices over to my phone's mobile hotspot when my DSL gets too slow.  Supposed to get 12Mb but usually only get 5 or less. Kids start playing games and I can't stream anything!

We're rural with DSL running about 1-2mbps.  We can stream Netflix on two devices and surf the internet on another with no problems (occasional load delay at peak times).
Most households couldn't use 50mbps if they tried.

You are concerned with connecting your single home to your ISP. I am concerned with ISPs connecting to whole other service providers.

As PlayStation Network continues to delay IPv6 connectivity, customers who are on CGNAT (carrier-grade NAT) will have to connect through a shared public IPv4 address. This has already caused problems with whole ISPs being automatically blacklisted from Sony due to them stupidly assuming all customers get their own public IPv4 address.

So 5G might do wonders for you talking to your ISP. But eventually your legacy IPv4 service will be behind CGNAT, and you'll be screwed on any IPv4-only service provider that needs point-to-point connectivity.

As far as I know, no wireless carrier (globally) has mobile 5G production-ready yet (not the same as beam-formed structured 5G), as the official spec isn't completed yet.   I do know of at least 2 carriers that are testing the a recent spec that will likely become ratified though.

Outside of MIMO for more speed, '5G' brings completely different architecture designs from the current '4G' IMS/LTE 3GPP deploys that every carrier currently uses.  This on paper, will also decrease latency/jitter.
