Ukrainian soldiers shoot Russian missile out of the sky in huge explosion |
|
shoulder fired caught up to the cruise missile pretty quickly
|
|
I wonder how much the little SAM cost and how much the cruise missile cost.

I guess Mach 1.6 > whatever that Russian cruise missile was traveling at.
|
|
And here I am getting all excited when I shoot a clay pigeon out of the sky.

Looks like subsonic cruise and maybe supersonic at final trajectory, depending on profile. |

Uke was lucky he didn't hit the telephone pole. D- for camera work.

Quoted: The cheap Iranian cruise missiles appear to be really slow. Even our Tomahawks are slow compared to MANPADS. Quoted: I don't think the rooskie cruise missiles (at least the one in the video) are supersonic. I don't think the rooskie cruise missiles (at least the one in the video) are supersonic. Oh, they have supersonic and hypersonic cruise missiles. That one wasn't. If what shot it down was an SA-14 Gremlin, it caught it fast. If it was an SA-7, that cruise missile was going much slower than I thought. I had to watch the video 3-4 times. |

Quoted: Most cruise missiles are not super sonic, for many reasons, one is tracking. I would bet as its probably damn close to a tomahawk in design its probably doing around 450 maybe as much as 500 mph. View Quote Yeah, I didn't hear the sonic boom. I thought it was going at like 600-700mph. 450-500 seemed slow. I used that pole as a reference. I've never seen a cruise missile shot down by a manpad before. |

I was just speaking about what we are seeing in the video. That looked like a Kent or a Kaliber. Both cruise subsonic in the 500 to 550 mph range. They can reach supersonic speeds in a terminal attack depending on their flight profile. |

Was that a javelin? Holy shit They can shoot down cruise missiles?

Quoted: Sams cost less than the cruise missile. Way less. View Quote Plus the lives it saved. Those were headed to Kviv Russian missile zooms over Kyiv before being shot down just in time |

There were supposedly two manpads fired at it. The one seen launched on the video I think might have been the second and the first one is the one that hit it. Possibly why it seemed such a quick kill.

I thought it was an SA-14 but after pausing it, I believe it's an SA-7 Grail. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ea/SA-7.jpg View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: Oh.. And that would explain why it caught so fast. SA-18 > SA-14 > SA-7. |

Quoted: Another version of the video you can see an object streak past the cruise missile at the very beginning, appears to be a high speed missile missing. The guy shooting past the telephone pole must be the second launch and responsible for the kill. Quoted: Seems like it was to quick but I know nothing of such weapons. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: shoulder fired caught up to the cruise missile pretty quickly Seems like it was to quick but I know nothing of such weapons. Air defense missiles, even man portable ones, are designed to catch up to something so they have to move very fast to do so. They also don't have to travel anywhere near the distance the cruise missile does. The cruise missile is running a marathon. The shoulder fired missile is a sprinter. |
