So what happened to Porunn, Bjorn's love from Season 3? She went into battle with him, was badly injured and disfigured mid-season, but didn't show up for Season 4. She was also pregnant with his child. I thought it was a longer season as well. Maybe a mistake? Yeah, the daughter of the Emperor was trying to manipulate Ragnar, and the drugs have baked his brain. The "lets hoist the boats and drag them across land past the towers and chain" plan is either brilliant, or a touch of insanity. Maybe both. |

There are 20 episodes this season, but I read that they are gonna play half of them, take a break (not sure how long), then play the other half.
Yeah, bloody episode with lots of deaths. Will miss the hot Chinese chick. Kwynthreth and Odo, not so much. And I hate Ragnars new wife, always have, so for her to be hurt and crazed made me happy. Great episode! |

What was the bit about Bjorn getting shot while hoisting a boat up the cliff?
And too bad about Kwinthreth (sp?) She added some crazy, and some good twists to the show. And was kinda hot. Judith is becoming quite the piece of work, too. Nice rack, also. Is there still time for Lagertha and Ragnar to hook back up, now that he is out of drugs, and his dealer failed the float test? |

From the preview of next week, it looks like his GF's hubby (Horik's son) forces her to try and kill him in order to keep the little turd from killing her son (he's already told her he'd do so). I hope she turns the crossbow on the little shit. |

This episode rocked!
I am happy to see the Chinese Emperor's (if she was) daughter go, and glad to see Ragnar getting back into the mix instead of sitting n the sidelines tripping. I am not sure what is going on with the French Emperor. I would have expected him to try to get proof on Odo, rather than just deciding who to believe. The king of Wessex (and Mercia) is one twisted, evil dude. |

View Quote From what I read, they take a break in the show to allow Bjorn and his half brothers, especially Ivar, to age so they can take over when Ragnar gets dumped into King Aelle's snake pit. Even though Ivar's physically handicapped, he turns out to be a formidable strategist. There are also tales of him being carried into battle on a shield. Episode summaries here. CAUTION: May contain spoilers. |

I had to laugh at the two brothers kissing ragnars butt when he said they were pulling the boats cross country

As I said the French Emperor isn't the coward or weirdo he's playing at. I think he was selling it so Odo would become over-confident, try to play his hand, knowing somebody would sell him out to get in the Emp's good graces. Then the lame attempt to dislodge Rollo because he doesn't believe he's really a "Christian". I was waiting for the Emperor to jump up and scream "No shit sherlock, did we hire him to be a priest or swing an ax?"
Regardless, Odo's fate was sealed when daughter said she was pregnant. She may not even be...yet. She's smart and could maybe sense the way the winds were blowing, she's used to "palace politics" in a way that Rollo isn't. Chinese chick definitely over-played her hand. She thought she was not only "free" but had Ragnar by the balls with the dope and his secret. Seems she forgot that he's the King and she's a nobody and put together a better plan. And did I hear Ragnar say "I don't want Paris I want Rome?" or something like that at the end? I recall that they never really "conquer" Paris and take any land per se (other than Rollo's gift). But basically just extort the French with the threat of another attack. Like, "send a ship with 10 chests of silver every Fall or we'll send 500 boats full of Vikings every Spring" is the arrangement I thought they finally settled on. If that's what he said, and I still need to re-watch then that would make a sweet target. Wouldn't have to cross the Alps, if they could get back on the river past Paris and find their way to the Med they could really do some damage. Of course if you get back to the river after Paris you can attack it from the rear, but I doubt Rollo wouldn't be prepared. He knows how his brother's mind works. Rome is probably the largest city in the world at the time and you've got plenty of other minor kingdoms to ally with or plunder all around them, Naples, etc. Going to be interesting going forward. Finehair and Dead King's Son and all their men have to die, preferably by Rollo but if not by Ragnar. Less people to split the treasure with anyway. He and Lagartha should hook back up but according to the sagas i don't think they ever do. |

Actually, if you've seen Bjorn looking at the map of Europe he took during their first visit to Paris (he called it his destiny), he will one day sail into the Mediterranean, getting as far as Italy. He did attack what he thought was Rome, but wasn't. |

Saw the preview that showed Ragnar being encircled by snakes. As I recall, that's how history says he died, betrayed by England and thrown in a pit of vipers. Hope this isn't the last season. Maybe that's why they doubled the number of episodes this year. Maybe Ragnar dies. It also seems like they are setting up Bjorn and Ragnar's other sons too.....maybe the show could continue with them. As I recall, their exploits were even more incredible than Ragnar's. The actor said he is leaving the show, so yeah he gets tossed in a snake pit. |

View Quote Depending on where the forts were...they might be easy to get around...the river does meander a lot. But getting upstream of Paris would be miles of overland very near the city just looking at google earth. Do we know where they did this? ETA It seems the defense towers were built at Pitres. So looking at google, a few miles to get around. It also appears they moved the boats over land to escape, not to invade. And that Odo wasn't around during the first invasion...and that he successfully took over from the king of his time. I think I will just go back to watching Lagerthna and stop doing research now. |

The boat over land thing.

We get it, Ivar is going to be a ruthless tactical genius. Lots of WTF decisions this season. |

So the emperor is a homo, Ragnar is still a strung out junkie, Ragnar's wife with the chin with a cock groove is becoming a Peg Bundy like worthless housewife, and who was the kid that was dead in the creek?
The second half of this season better deliver, this is first half has been thoroughly disappointing. |

Floki built barges. Very good idea not only for the reason you stated, but they also won't have to use all of their boats for the attack. Also, I had to chuckle when the Emporor turned out to be gay. It kind of explained a few things, and makes me think that he had Odo executed because of a lover's spat. And it looks like the Francs have boats too. In the preview, they show Rollo in a boat with Franc soldiers rowing their asses off. Interesting. |
