Quoted: Can't beat the first Publicly-funded pro sports stadiums are a racket. The taxpayers are essentially guaranteeing the profits of the wealthy owners. Like Robin Hood, in reverse. View Quote This. The teams already get free promotion and marketing from the media, and much of the general public acts like the NFL is a national treasure that cannot be done without. I guess it is like the Romans providing entertainment for the masses in Colosseum. What other businesses in the US get as much free advertising and hype. |

Quoted: Good. Fuck paying for that shit by the public. View Quote Yep, total BS that the tax payer money is ever used for stadiums for professional sports where owners pay hundreds of millions if not over a billion to buy teams and pay players millions. Let the private sector pay to build them and run them. |
|
If stadiums, ballparks, and arenas are such great investments, then the teams should have no trouble at all recruiting private investors.

Quoted: They have also removed Royals from public access TV viewing, who wants to pay for the stadiums and then have to pay for a streaming TV service to watch the game? Thats nuts. View Quote That's the MLB doing that and not the Royals. At least you're only blacked out from seeing Royals and/or Cardinals games. Iowa get's blacked out for Brewers, Cardinals, Cubs, Royals, Twins, and the White Sox.... |

Quoted: And stupid. Putting Allegiant stadium so close to the freeway was stupid. Putting the new A's stadium right there in the middle of the Strip is industrial strength stupid. What the holy blue fuq are these idiots thinking??? View Quote Eh, Baseball is trying to get back to the old days, were the stadium was a part of down town, and most people didn't drive to the game. Astros/Cardinals/Twins/Lots of others are that way, and b/c of it most of the time I've taken an Uber to the game, and then spend time drinking after the game until Uber is reasonable to get back home/to hotel. Once the A's go to Vegas, I'll for sure fly in for a few days to stay on the strip and catch a few games in a row. As I won't be driving to the games, I'll more likely to stay on the strip for ease of getting to the stadium. Me plus millions of others will use a few baseball games as an excuse to go and spend money in Vegas. |

These owners think that it's still 1980 and that there are a lot of cities where they can move to and draw a crowd.
Look how Jacksonville worked out for the NFL, and there are others in baseball, too. If you want it, build it yourself, stop stealing from the taxpayers. |

Quoted: Yes we did. It was a surprise to me. The politicians will keep trying to get it passed one way or another. But for now they have been kicked to the curb View Quote way bigger metros out there now. It's not 1970 anymore. |

Since taxpayers are so generous, give all business owners a blank check to build whatever facilities they want for their business.
The more, the merrier. |

The taxpayers of Harris county Texas are still paying for the Astrodome, which hasn't been used for about 20 years. In fact, there was a resolution on the ballot whether to tear it down or not. Tear it down won, and the city council ignored it. I'm thinking it's still standing is because it's full of asbestos and they don't want to pay for the hazardous cleanup.

Quoted: I see it as the opposite, KC isn't a big metro anymore, it's growing slower than the rest of the country. The chances of them packing up and moving somewhere like Austin are high. The Chiefs involvement in this measure was just due to proximity. This has been a Royals driven initiative for years. |

Meh, pro ball teams come and go. Time to move on. Maybe if the economy ever recovers the big cities will be able to afford these luxuries or maybe not.

Sherman is a dumbass. Not sure I'd pay to go to a game as long as he's the owner.
I expected it to lose, but not this soundly. Could be an indication that in These Trying Times people are tired of paying these people's way. |

Back in the 1990's Chicago Bears GM Mike McCaskey approached mayor Little Dick Daley to demand that the city build a new stadium. Or else he'd move the team to Gary, Indiana (lol).
Mind, this was the year that Northwestern took a break from getting whaled on by girl scouts and retarded kids and won the Rose Bowl. I've never known Mayor Short shanks to get anything right before or since, but the stuttering prick told McCaskey "When you have the best football team in Chicago, then come back and make demands." (In the interest of historical accuracy, I'm pretty sure that Daley caved and coughed up for a new stadium as soon as the fat envelopes showed up.) Oh, BTW, fuck John Elway, and for pretty much the same reason. |

Quoted: If the miserable owner does move the team, I'll watch the Cardinals or find something else to do. View Quote There's nothing wrong with Kaminski Park that gassing the rest of the neighborhood wouldn't fix. But if they really do move, you know, there is this other team a hell of a lot closer than St Louis... |

What exactly does the general public get out of it? Not like you can go see anything for less than $100.

It is now the hood and no, there is noway to get that much traffic through there. |

Im sure residents won't have to pay $9 for a hot dog and $20 for a beer after they pay for the fking stadium right?
