I was into the comics - but I've only seen the first dozen or so episodes of the show. I got the DVDs from the library and got bored with it quick. Still loved the comics, though. My favorite was the Malcontent Uprising.

Hollywood will find a way to fuck it up, as usual. THey did it with GI Joe and I swear I will never forgive them for it.

Yeah this was 5th-6th grade for me. My head would explode if they tried making this...no way they'd get it right...
I'm already all to pieces that Ender's Game was turned into a movie... |

I will still see it. Robotech was my favorite cartoon series. I can't not see it. Yeah, and I loved GIJoe comics as a kid and we all saw what horrible things they did with that. Two of my very favorite things from childhood were Wolverine and GI Joe. Both were raped mercilessly in front of me on the big screen in the same year. They were raped worse than Star Wars and Indiana Jones were. Yes, I said it. So having been nostalgia-raped by all of those things, I have been inoculated. There is no way this can suck harder than Midichlorians, Jar Jar Binks, Deadpool, or the GI Joe movie did. Great, now I'm depressed. |

Gundam as a franchise has brought in an estimated $5 billion as of 2009 IIRC. Billion. That's with minimal penetration of the US market. Gundam should be a huge live action franchise just like Transformers is! I have a sporadic collection of Hobby Japan magazines going back to the 80s. It's awesome seeing the evolution of the Gundam armor. It's constantly being updated and always fresh and interesting. |

If and when they make a RT movie, I hope they cast it properly. I hope Toby Maguier is not shown on screen even thou his little production company has a small stake in the RT name now.
I would just have for them to make a movie and just Fuck it all up to Hell and back. Now to go play with my MPC and old school mecha and VT and Zent pods. I'm doing to do mock battles with my kids. Thou my favorites to play with are the Invid and Cyclones. Thou the Alphas and Beta's rock too. My daughter says I have too many SDF1 toys. What can I say, she's wrong. For all those wanting to know, the newest Video in the Robotech Saga is coming out in a week and a half. LLA with Shadow Chronicles. You can pre order on Amazon |

I actually just looked over on Robotech.com and it looks like a "new" animated movie is going to be released in a few weeks. It apparently will tell the story of Lancer between the Masters Saga and the New Generation series...gee...just what I always wanted to see. Not a Yellow(pickle surprise)Dancer fan ? ... Actually, I don't really mind the character, I just never gave that time period much thought. I'd rather see the Malcontent Uprisings or Shadow Rising. But Accidental did make a point of it possibly showing Jupiter Division's battles with the Invid so I guess it has potential. (I pre-ordered it regardless) Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Easy, you start with the one year war, and I mean the very beginning (not in the last few months like the original 79' version does). Leave out all of the newtype and angsty teen crap and have it just be soliders. 8th MS team would be a good example of taking ordinary soldiers on just one front. MS IGLOO actually did this showing the initial invasion of earth and how the feddies get absolutely curb stomped by the zeon forces at the beginning. The US just does not have a giant robot fad like Japan has/did. Gundam is actually a pretty solid franchise in terms of the storyline, it just gets muddled by all teen drama and anti-war rants that are deep routed in the series. After the 12th series it is like....ok we got it already...war sucks....you got a nuke dropped on you japan...suck it up. |

I would see that movie................Hopefully they will insert some evil Zentradei in there. Last I hear Tobey MacGuire had the rights to Robotech

He could pull it off but I don't think he can be in a role where he isn't staring off into nowhere with possible tears forming in his eyes. |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile He looks young, I think he could play the role but if he brings his usual trademark... it'll fuck up Rick's character. His wiki suggests that they are hoping the movie will launch a whole series of movies, so if they don't fuck it up, we might get to see a movie for each saga. Macross, Masters, New Generation, Sentinals (never seen this series personnally. Don't think it aired.) |
|
Sentinels was supposed to be a series but got axed after only a couple of episodes were made.
Macek re-edited those episodes into a single 90min movie. Depending on the dvd set you have, it might be in there as part of the bonus features. eta: looks like it's on YouTube in parts. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Yeah YouTube has been a cluster fuck trying to find anything... was looking to rewatch the SC tonight here at work No joy I don't actually have the DVD set, just a couple of DVDs with a few episodes on each. Haven't looked at them in ages since I had the series on Amazon or Netflix, can't remember. |

I met Carl Macek at a sci-fi convention when I was 12, that was back in 1986
Although I'm a huge Robotech fan I'd rather see Hollywood do it right or not at all. Anime related films amazing hadn't taken off with Hollywood. For example, last year they were supposed to start a film based on Akira and scrapped it last minute. |

Didn't they rename it Pacific Rim? Dude, that movie looks like ass! Nothing near ROBOTECH. Seriously, that is the second reference I've seen. Am I missing something? If you think Pacific Rim movie is anything like ROBOTECH... Amazon has the whole Robotech series. Spend the cash and watch it from the Macross Saga through The Masters and complete the Invid. Pacific Rim is a rip off of Big O, which is a rip off of some earlier cartoon I'm sure |

Meh... If they are gonna do a crossover, they should do a crossover with gundam. Watching UN Spacey forces owning all of the combined forces of Universal Century without even breaking a sweat would be awesome. |

The more I think about it, the more I hope a live action movie never green lights.
If anything I'd rather have an AMC or even HBO live action series. A movie would be so brutalized to get the epic story in one 1.5/2 hour stretch of time. A series done right would be successful and really, they wouldn't have to get too many writers involved if they followed the original series and added Sentinels - plus (where writers come into play in force). That is at least 6 seasons, if they break each original saga into two seasons.... |
|
Crossover? Why?!
Honestly. Maybe more youth adored Voltron than ROBOTECH, but you don't see Voltron forums, etc... or maybe there are, I wouldn't know. It would seem that Voltron fans would accept and be drawn to a deeper story of ROBOTECH if it was presented. |
