Depends OP, did he put on a Superman costume and view from a hidden location while you were running his guns hard?
Seriously, just sounds like a guy who had his fun with the guns and is letting others have the same experience. Guns are not analogous to sex. It’s creepy when some folks use sexual innuendo to describe them. They are just tools that happen to be fun to use. |

I have a coworker that is sort of like that... He owns a few machine guns and although he actually shoots them, he clearly has more fun when other folks blast through a mag on the UZI with a huge smile on their face. He's super generous and provides the ammo.
He doesn't do any training or competitions, so letting other people enjoy the investments is a way to justify spending 50k on an HK lol. |
|
Sooo....... since nobody asked. What range is this guy hanging out at?
Somebody offers to let me burn a few mags through their full-auto. I will burn a few mags through their full-auto. Absolutely. Yes, every time. |

I shoot privately most of the time, but inwas at a local range recently, and a 12 or 13 YO and his dad were there shooting 22s, a Glock and a deer rifle like a Rem 700 or something.
The kid kept watching me shoot and was eyeing one of my ARs with a "wow, cool" look. I immediately wanted him to shoot it and asked his dad if it was OK. He said he didn't mind, but didn't have any ammo for it. I told him I didn't care at all, I had plenty. They shot a Mag and were really enjoying it. I could tell they really liked it, so I gave them 2 more full mags. The father was like, are you sure? You could tell he wanted to but was being respectful of ammo or whatever. Anyway, I told him I wouldn't have offered of i wasn't sure. I told the kids to make sure he got a few rapid bursts in The dad asked about my red dot on my Glock and if he could look through it. I told him only if he shot it, and handed him a magazine, but he refused the mag and grabbed his Glock mags and said he insisted on shooting his ammo since I have just given them 100 rds of 5.56. He loved the red dot and became very interested in getting one. At the end of the day, seeing the joy they got out of shooting a couple of my guns, made it the best part of the range trip by far. And just to add, the kid was a very good shooter, and i could tell he knew about guns and wasn't being irresponsible and I had no worries about handing him an AR with his dad and I standing there. No muzzle sweeps, finger off the trigger etc. I have a feeling if I ever see them again, they will 100% have an AR. Shooting is fun, shooting with other people and introducing them to things is more fun, and what this hobby is all about. |

Not wierd at all. Some people genuinely enjoy making other people happy.
My old shooting buddy let people shoot his MAC-11 just to give them the experience. I never saw him shoot it more than other people did. More than a few times, I ended up being the only one shooting some of his firearms on a given range trip. "Hey, want to shoot my Galil this Saturday?". I'd shoot it, but not him. |

Quoted: You may be joking, but its probably not far off from the truth. I can only speak from my experience, but when you first but an MG you have a few years of stupid shit eating grins every time you shoot them. That eventually wears off. But I always enjoy from putting that same stupid shit eating grin on a newbie. View Quote This. As an SOT and owning several transferables - the joy isn't in shooting them myself anymore. Its seeing peoples reactions who get to shoot one for the first time. |

I don't have anything as cool as that guy to share at the range, but I do have a few suppressor, and I absolutely love seeing the smiles that those put on people's faces when they shoot suppressed for the first time.
OP's story doesn't seem that weird to me. |
|
And now everyone else’s prints are on those guns……
I dont shoot anyone’s stuff unless I know them. |
|
He just wants your fingerprints on his guns so he can murder multiple people with impunity.

Years ago a guy let my shoot his .50 caliber rifle on the 1000 yard range. I hit the steel. It's like 8 feet across so it was hard to miss. But it was still really cool. And back then it was over $8/round.
I didn't think anything of it other than wow that guy is cool and that's a cool rifle. |
|
I know a guy who would hand me his M16 lower because he was curious how it ran with different uppers.

I worked at an indoor range for a few years in the 90s and similar interactions were common.
I had one shooter insist that I shoot his brand new .50AE Desert Eagle. I fired one round right through the center of the bullseye at 15 yards. He was so excited that he told me to take a second shot. Bang! Same hole. "Do it again!" Bang! Third shot same hole. I stopped, feeling bad about shooting almost $15 worth of his ammo so quickly. He was so excited to see the accuracy potential of his new gun. He pulled the target to save it as proof. The smile on his face... |
|
I used to take people out on my boat to catch sailfish and they'd ask why I wasn't fishing. Seeing a first-timer experience their first billfish is far more exciting than me ever catching another one and this range guy apparently enjoyed seeing people shoot a full-auto firearm for the first time.

His collection consisted of multiple transferrable machine guns and a SCAR17 with a CQB barrel on it. I shot a mag through his F/A MP5 and went back to my business. I periodically would look over and not once did I see him shoot his very expensive collection of guns. In fact, all he was doing was letting other people shoot them, men only. He easily plowed through 500-700 dollars worth of ammunition letting people shoot his guns. I finally got curious enough and went over to ask him what the deal was. I asked him if he was ever gonna shoot his guns himself and he says "oh no, I mostly come here to watch people use my guns. I like seeing people's faces when they run em hard, especially the full auto ones." I told him I thought it was kinda strange but I'm sure everyone appreciated being able to rip some mags through a machine gun or a high-end gun. Has anyone ever experienced this? A lot of people get lonely as they get older. He’s probably shot thousands of rounds through them and has a huge ammo fort at home. What he doesn’t have is friends/human interaction. So what he does is brings them to the range and gets a chance to interact and bring joy to others.

I would do the same anytime at the range, however, I know it would look odd to some people like OP.
I don't offer, but if anyone asked, I would allow it. |

Cool dude imo. After a while, full auto isn’t so amazing…I’d imagine. He just has something and is sharing it with fellow enthusiasts. I think it’s cool.

The club I belong to has a lot of members that have full auto stuff.
A good portion of them have handed me guns to shoot, but I wasn't a perfect stranger to them. I usually asked if the ammo I had with me was OK to use. While not FA, One of the strangest was a guy that handed me some kind of 20MM pistol (yes 20mm) It was a single shot that chambered some kind of shortened 20mm wildcat round. I didn't try it until he shot it first. So, meh. I don't think it was all that odd. |

Was there a fruit plate involved?
Promise of imitation crab meat afterwards? this should answer your question. |

View Quote Any time I have any of my cans at the range, if I see someone watching me shoot I'll usually offer to let them run a magazine through it. Most people don't own any, and it always leads to, "Those are cool! How do you get one? Aren't they illegal? I want some!" And I'm more than happy to get a legal purchaser started down the road to becoming an NFA owner. |

Another vote for cool but lonely guy.
I've offered strangers the opportunity to shoot my guns if they pass my range safety sniff test. Especially for kids who might not get to shoot something like I own until they grow up. That's how you get new shooters into the sport. My dad has a safe full of guns his shoulders can no longer handle. He brings them to his club sometimes so other people can enjoy them. So, not a cuck, and you should have offered to buy the guy some lunch. There's probably a story behind some of those guns that could be educational. |
|
Naw, that sounds cool
I bet a late 60s guy with a few class 3s, he's shot a whole lot over his lifetime and gets more joy seeing newer shooters enjoy it than make an even bigger pile of brass candidly, I like shooting FAs, but the fun of it wears off fairly quickly. Theyre probably more fun to share |

Every time I take my Garand to the range, other people there shoot it a lot more than I do.
I shoot it for a ping or two, then the W2 and Korean War guys take over. The smiles and stories are worth the cost of ammo. Even the COD kids want to try it. Same for the M1a, revolvers, P series Sigs, Hi-power, and 1911's. I can shoot them anytime, most people don't have the opportunity. I load mags and give shooting tips. |

I can't believe you all are that naive or oblivious to political realities.
ATF has prosecuted individuals before for shooting a converted full auto, or a suppressor-equipped hardware, or both at the same time. matter of fact. You don't know what it is exactly you are engaging there. Yeah it could be he is just an altruistic fellow but it sounds *very* suspicious. Has all the alphabet fingerprints on it. They could set up a cam in the range and in the parking lot capturing shooters' info. The only free stuff you find in life is cheese in a mousetrap. A guy at the range, not doing any shooting whatsoever, and letting people blow away $700 in ammo in the full-auto mode. Just how stupid do they think we are. That's exactly right, if someone does a conversion outside of paperwork BS, anyone who touches the conversion is subject to prosecution. Sounds like the agency is trying to justify their budget and find a reason to exist. The people doing the entrapment have a debt to the agency they are trying to work off, most likely they are in some trouble and brokered a deal. |

I love letting people shoot my guns at the range. I build cool shit, and I can only appreciate them so much, so I like letting other people have fun and see if my stuff is cool or not.

One of the reasons I bought a machine gun was to let others shoot it and shoot it. I build lots of weird shit because it's weird and unique and that other people love seeing them and shooting them.
