Driver's Ed had a mid 1980's Buick Regal.
My dad had a '56 Chevy Wagon he let me drive quite a bit while learning to drive. |

Dad's car, 1972 Dodge Charger SE. Interestingly enough he actually bought it when he was taking my mom to check into the hospital so I could be born. Learned to drive stick in my mom's early 90's 2wd Ford Ranger.

'72 Pinto station wagon, with large vice grips in place of door handles, small ones in place of window cranks.
Not having access to anything as sophisticated as "4WD", we had to satisfy our offroading & mudslinging urges with it, and a Datsun 710. |

Don't remember a "single" car but bugged everyone and anyone to let me drive as a younger teen. Best memories are my grandmother's 60's something VW bug manual. And for real my dad's 1970 Charger R/T plum crazy purple 426 2X4brl 4 speed with a hurst pistol grip. Got to drive it about 1/4 mile, and took it real easy. Looking back I bet he was sweating bullets hoping I didn't act stupid. RIP DAD.

My father had a 1958 that had a 4-speed, a 66 that was a 4-speed, and then they made the mistake of buying a 73 Super Beetle with automatic stick shift. |

Drove my dad's rental car around the block around a few times, but my 87.5 Subaru XT Turbo was the first car that I really learned how to drive around in. Paid $750 for it...digital dash cluster, trip computer, pop up headlights, and a turbo which was fun when you got it going.
Learned how to drive stick in a ford focus. Still have that car and park it behind my wife from time to time who still hasnt figured out how to move. She's gotten it stuck in the middle of the street from time to time. |

Thread topic. Learned to drive an old red Ford farm truck. 3 on the tree. I'd already "driven" a giant combine on the street before that. Massive power....real slow. |

Tahoe
Not what I would have picked if I'd been given the option. |

1948 Chevy pickup. It was not in this good of condition, as it was a farm truck. It was also the early 2000s, so its was up there in years.

I wouldn't call it 'learning' , but my friend/then-neighbor who is a couple years older than me let me drive his '98-ish Chevy S10 on a side street one time. I was probably 13 or 14 and hadn't yet learned proper pedal control, so it was a pretty jerky ride.
My first proper driving lesson came a little while later in my dad's leased Dodge Magnum (with 5.7 Hemi, of course ). We did the obligatory cemetery drive, complete with "You can't kill anyone out here" jokes. When I got my learner's permit, the majority of my actual on-road learning was done in a 2001 Jeep Cherokee. That car is still around, I replaced the engine in it a while back (0331 cylinder head failure) |

I became comfortable in my Mom's car, which was some kind of Buick (59 Invicta?). I learned the acceptable way to drive in Driver's training, which had Dodges or Plymouths (ca 1964) - our teacher was Larry Rozadilla, who later became a referee in boxing. I learned to drive a stick in my girl friend's super beetle (73, I think).

78 Mercury Cougar. I laugh at kids today who gripe about parallel parking in Mom's econobox.
