Mom managed to feed two growing boys and a picky-eating husband on a college professor's income throughout the 70s and 80s. We ate a lot of tuna, chicken, and occasionally beef. We never ate out unless it was someone's birthday or another special occasion, but we were never hungry. Her cooking style was VERY southern-French and Middle Eastern, with a healthy dose of upper-Midwest casseroles and noodle dishes. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

See, there's that technique thing again. You can make cheap cuts taste absolutely delicious and tender, without bashing them with a hammer. But the average person seemingly had no idea how to do this. And it's hard to blame them, because information wasn't as widely shared and available, as it is now. (My mom did it too ) |

15% interest on mortgage, Jimmy Carter, the K-car View Quote Somewhere around 1996, I was working in a little hole in the wall computer shop. One of the technicians was driving a Plymouth Reliant, and the starter went out - leaving him stranded in our parking lot, and unable to do an on-site service call. I'm sitting there with my head down inside some customer's computer, and I overhear this conversation on the speaker phone: "Thank you for calling Kragens Auto Parts!" "Yeah, I need a starter. Just want to know if you have one in stock, and how much?" "Sure! What are we working on today?" "1983 Plymouth piece of shit" "Reliant?" Swear to God. |

I for one wish it was 1980 again.
All the hot pussy and weed I wanted. Now I just work like a dog and have neither. Just money. I would trade back in a heartbeat. Not all those girls had hairy pussy. It was the best time of my life. No Job, Free pussy, weed and food. I also had a car. Fuck! I wish I had a time machine. |

People were tougher back then. Nobody broke into tears because they saw a cigarette. Men were men, women were women and the rest stayed in their closets. I truly believe folks were happier back then. Friendlier. Connected to each other instead of plugged into devices. The Nanny state didn't exist yet.

I don't miss the air and water pollution one damn bit. Greatest generation my ass, those are the fuckers had us living in filth. You can thank the boomers for the much better air and water quality we enjoy today.

Yeah, I remember collecting everyone's Christmas money and placing a huge order of skateboards and parts. Two months later, when the last snow was melting, it would show up and I'd hand over 500 dollars or more.

Having to rely on an aerial antenna, turning the rotor back and forth hoping the channel would come in.

Interest rates were 20% or more. Step mother that for some reason is still breathing. 55 speed limit.
I still love the music, and the bell bottoms. Hated the hippies but they came back. Damned cigarettes were everywhere and people smoked like chimneys. Lying ass Walter Cronkite. I always wondered if there was really more going on than he let on. I could feel the liberal slant of the media even as a kid and was called paranoid and radical then. Proven right over the years. We had a Panasonic microwave in 1975. |

Fucking gas lines and the odd/even license plate rationing system.
I do kind of miss he trading stamps though |

Pubic hair on women, disco, the USSR, velour, the McDLT... We are not diminished for their passing.

Ordering stuff was a pain in the ass, amazon rocks. Cash on delivery, f that.
Going from a to b across the country with a giant map that only had interstates and major highways. Luck and land nav for the win. So much carpet and shitty furniture. It’s worse quality nowadays but the 80s furniture was not just cheap, but ugly and cheap. Still, it was way better than post 911. Today sucks. And I’m not even a grumpy boomer just a regular gen x guy. |

I'm sure these were mentioned before:
Jimmy Carter Disco Long Gas Lines Leaded Gas (actually miss this as it was cheaper than unleaded) Bell Bottom Jeans 10' snow drifts - although it did get us out of school. :) 40 cans of hair spray on women that had broader shoulders than me. lol :) |
