12.8 lbs with a full 20 and the scope covers still on.

Never have understood the complaints about weight.  Uncle Otto was a BAR gunner.  1918, mag belt, +2 extra bandoleers, grenades, and his pack across Italy and Europe. He was 6' even, I've got 4" on him.

What if my go to long gun isn't an AR?

I think with a loaded 30 round PMag, my ACR was around 9.5-10 pounds?

Well, I could have gone lighter on this current build - but have an aimpoint on order.  While I did seriously consider going with a low mass bolt to save some weight (I am using a spare bolt right now).  I have not really pushed forward with this build - as the dollar signs started spinning in my mind, defeating the purpose of a semi-disposable build.  It would be real easy to blink and drop an extra $500 or $1k in efforts to save weight.  Magnesium lower, light weight bcg, adjustable gas block, captive spring buffer - new furniture...

The origin of this build was I had almost all the parts lying arround to do it - so all I really needed to start with was the sling, Aimpoint and barrel.  Had spare lowers, triggers, hand guards, bcg, charging handle...  It currently even has a spare scope on it till the aimpoint shows up.

6.5 lbs.

Never understood the guys lugging around 10+ pound boat anchors. Let's hang some more shit on it. First one to 20 pounds wins!

A lightweight magnified optic, white light, and IR laser  / illuminator will get you close pretty quick.

The colt I took to Gonzales weighted 7lb 14oz with an acog and light (unloaded, bipod removed).  Current light weight build is 7lb 1oz without light, but with a heavier optic.  Betting the Aimpoint will give me another 6oz 13oz savings (a micro could save a another 8oz, but went with a patrol version).  Max I can shave off the buffer and bcg would be 4-6oz.  Current Barrel Nut and hand guard are 13 oz.  That is not all that heavy, but if I went all Brigand weighs in a 4.3oz.  So in theory 5lb 11oz is possible if I just pour money over it.

Polymer lower weights 1.5lbs vs colt lower weighing 2:25lbs.  So lower alone is 12 of the 13 oz difference so far.  Without starting from scratch, the only weight left to shave off that lower is in the buffer.
---
Just did some more weighing.  Current scope and mount are a light 25oz (rofl).  The aimpoint is listed as 12 oz.  So when that comes in, will get the rifle down to 6lbs 4oz.  If I go with an RMO, can knock another 8oz off that to 5lbs 12oz.  If I just want to say fuck it, the light weight carbon fiber hand guard will put it down to 5lb 3oz.  At some point I have to ask myself, what is light enough.
---
Borrowed an Aimpoint from a 22lr - it now weights 6lb 5oz.  Reluctant to do the RMO - not much battery life.  As it stands now - that is not bad with virtually no functional compromises.

Pretty good. The weight is on my helmet, not my rifle. I've got Eotech XPS3s no magnifier on most rifles.

No fat guns!

It's funny how people dog the Steyr AUG for supposedly being heavy while most of the ARs in the thread are 8+lbs with 16" barrels, but my AUG-A1 comes in at 7.9 lbs with a built-in optic, vfg, 20" barrel, and balances right over the pistol grip. Swapping the barrel for a 16" puts it at 7.3 lbs

Your scale is off a loaded pmag 40 is definitely more than 6 ounces

ETA 40 rounds of 5.56 weights 17.3 ounces loaded a pmag 40 is about 24 ounces

At some point in this thread I was thinking about lightening the buffer. By removing the weights.  I was not thinking that through.  While the buffer weighs are reciprocating mass-they act somewhat independently from the bolt carrier (just as the bolt is somewhat independent of the bolt carrir)   They function as a dead blow hammer.  Removing that mass can screw with the how the bolt functions

anyway.  Going to try a lighter red dot.  Also have a variable gas block on order.  Low mass bolts are a bit hard to find right now.

Yeah I’d start with the stock, handguard, optics and optic mounts, then I’d move to lightweight BCG if still wasn’t light enough

Wrong thread...
Everything ordered but the low mass bolt carrier and carbon fiber handguard.  Sadly I am distracted by the riot threads.  If I have a low mass carrier, might as well put a binary trigger on it...

St. Freefall, I agree that it doesn't matter

Plz bless me to become less of a fatty, as I am slowly becoming so

7 vs. 11lbs doesn't matter when one isn't a fatso

It starts to matter when you have it hanging on a sling on your shoulder for 6hrs.

Other than that - I have other AR's.  My go to is 8lbs loaded.  Range toys weigh more.  Right now I am just building a gun to hang on my shoulder, that should go bang if I need it to.  But going bang, bang is better - right...

I understand why cops like glocks, every oz, every hour adds up.

Whatever an SR15 weighs. It’s certainly far from the lightest but it’s one I’d trust my life with. My lightest rifle, meh. Don’t think I’d bring it to a gunfight, not that I’d ever be in one anyway lol.
