So, I recently built a house near Liberty Hill, TX (central Texas area about 30'ish miles north of Austin).  I've got a couple of acres in a newly developed area with abundant wildlife such as deer, raccoon, skunk, turkey, etc.  I see deer tracks and beds all over the place.  Recently, intermixed with a bunch of deer tracks made in soft loam, I noticed the following which appear to be feline (or at least, some of them do).  I've never seen cougar/mountain lion tracks IRL, nor have I seen one in the CENTEX area, so I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around this.

So ARFCOM - what made these tracks?  (some may be canine - I do have a 115# female bullmastiff, but from what I can tell, her tracks are roughly 66% of the size of some of these).

Updated pics with measuring tape for size reference: (it rained a bit today, so the tracks are starting to wash out a bit)

Canine. Probably not coyote, as I believe they are a bit to wide.

Those are not cat tracks. Cats don't print claws. Remember their claws retract. Judging by your description they are a dog and not a coyote. Coyotes would be smaller than you describe. Another way to tell the difference between dog and coyote are dog tracks are two pairs of tracks side by side while coyote tracks are all in a single line.

That's what is making this extra hard for me.  I've been looking at big cat tracks (cougar) online all morning, and almost all of them have similar pads, but no claw marks.  The only explanation I can come up with, seeing as how these tracks were mixed with a bunch of deer tracks too, is maybe the cat was hunting/running to go after the deer.  I don't know...

This. Cats retract their claws when walking (generally).

Those tracks look to be canine.

This = Traveling with claws out is NOT a cat of any kind.

Older Mastiff tracks that spread out over a few hours/days is my guess.  Need weather info for for the past 3 days for better guessing.

Dog. Dog tracks have one lobe on top, two on bottom. Cat tracks have two lobes on top, three on bottom.

Think those look canine to me...but FWIW I live in Leander area and we have had Cougars in our area pretty recently...one got caught on a game cam, if I can remember where I saw it I'll try to get a pic up.

I'll get one with something near by to ref size.  The larger prints were not made by my dog (again, a 115# female bullmastiff with pretty large paws herself), so I would be really surprised if the were made by something like a lab or a similar canine less than 100#s.

Doubt it was a panther. I don't see the typical spread of broken parts and fuel truck marks.
