Quoted: That's what is making this extra hard for me. I've been looking at big cat tracks (cougar) online all morning, and almost all of them have similar pads, but no claw marks. The only explanation I can come up with, seeing as how these tracks were mixed with a bunch of deer tracks too, is maybe the cat was hunting/running to go after the deer. I don't know... You've heard of coydogs...these are coudog tracks. Or just a dog. |

Its a canine of some sort, nails (claws) are clearly visible, cat prints don't have nails or claws.

These all appear to be canis lupus, likely canis lupus familiaris (domesticated dog). If you can, and for fun, can you get a picture of your dog's right rear paw in the same ground, put a ruler next to it and take the picture? Retake one of these with a ruler also.

Quoted: definitely a dog. terrain can vary the pad pattern a bit depending on how soft/firm it is, but here is my 70lb female lab in snow, just for you to compare http://i.imgur.com/4d8RYWV.jpg View Quote WTF is that yellow thing with lines and gibberish all over it? How could that possibly be useful? GTFO! Absolutely ruins the composition! |

Since this is GD, and everyone thinks it's canine, it's clearly a wolf.

Canine. Probably not coyote, as I believe they are a bit to wide. View Quote I live a few miles further east on the South San Gabriel River in Garbriels Overlook. I have been around coyotes for 45 years. I watched, what I believe to be coywolves, rather than coyotes, kill two deer in my backyard a couple of years ago. They were probably 35% to 50% larger than the average coyote, husky shoulders and chest, square face, reddish fur. They were just huge. I have not seen them since then. I was so amazed by their size that I wrote an e-mail to a local hunting editor at the Austin American Statesman and asked if we had red wolves in Texas. He wrote back that we dont have any wolves in Texas, but there are red wolves in Mexico. When ever I walk the San Gabriel now,I always carry pistol because of the size of those animals. |

The first one looks like a raccoon, but it's hard to tell without something for size reference. The bottom one is a dog.

Since the tracks are intermixed with deer tracks on occasion, you have yourself a Deerhound running loose about your parts.

Clearly it is one of those ice cave lions that they Russians were cloning.

Dang, DG is slipping lately. Those are clearly Chupacabra tracks.
