Neil Young for me. And Wings. Fleetwood Mac, too. We used to listen to it in the car on the way down to visit my Aunt and Uncle in the summer. Mid to late 70's.
BTW, we were in a '74 Ford LTD station wagon. Woodie. Running around in the back, no car seats, boosters, or seat belts. How did we survive? This is a '72. Close enough. You get the idea. |

We listened to whatever Mom & Dad had tuned in the radio. Unless of course I was alone and had my pocket transistor AM radio with me. Then I usually had some scratchy sounding rock and roll station playing.

My old man had a record collection of cheesey records he had bought long before I was born. We lived out in BFE so access to other music and TV was pretty limited.
I was an elementary school kid who thought Roger Miller and Johnny Horton were the cat's ass. Deep Purple was in there too. no phone, no pool, no pets in 1814 we took a little trip smoke on the water |

Lancaster County PA. We had 2 FM stations. 105.1 WIOV Which was counrty and FM97. My parents listened to country.

At that age it would have been all Disney stuff and themes from TV shows.
|
|
The music that brings me back to that time is Kiss records (my older brother was obsessed) and the Partridge Family.

Under 10?
Motown, The Stones, YES, Aerosmith, all the good late 60's early 70's stuff. J- |

don't worry, be happy.
I can remember listening to it on the way home from pre-k in moms samurai. |
|
Arabic music when my mom would clean the house. Metal and classic rock from my brother and uncle.
|
|
The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. She Loves You and I want to Hold Your Hand.

NWA, Beastie Boys, INXS
And whatever oldies I had to listen to while driving with my dad. |

Under 10 was mostly what Dad listened to (Elvis, Merle Haggard, Johnny Horton, etc.) and a little of what my grandparents listened to (gospdl and bluegrass). Still love all of the above.
In contrast, by 10 I had my own son hooked on '70s and '80s rock and older/classic country. And Elvis. Always Elvis. |

My folks listened to Elvis & I listened to The Partridge Family

|
Dad:
Tom Waits Paul Simon Willie Nelson Mom: Bee Gees Linda Ronstadt Bob Denver My brother and I: Boston AC/DC Van Halen Me personally AC/DC albums--Let There Be Rock and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap |

Phil Collins, Journey, Hooty and the Blowfish, Hall and Oats, Huey Lewis, so on so forth. My old man is a junky for that era pop/soft rock and that's all that got played.
And yes, I know most of those aren't spelt right |

Alan Jackson 100%, the combination of dads diesel and the smell the boat put off when it started up was some of my best memories.
|
|
Below the age of 10 I had no real interest in music, but I heard tons of late-sixties to disco-era CRAP on other peoples' radios.
|
|
Michael Jackson, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Billy idol. These were the rage among others.
Thanks to my brother....Rush, KISS, Black Sabbath, Quiet Riot, and etc. |

around 10? still mainly 50's, 60's and 70's pop.... some 70's rock..

I grew up in the late 70's and 80's but I was raised on the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, Buddy Holly, Willy Nelson, Hank jr. A few days ago I heard American Pie by Don McLean on the Radio and I went right back to being 8 years old riding shotgun in my ol' mans 1978 IH Scout.
I heard Set em up Joe by Vern Gosdin not long ago and it immediately put me back in my pawpaws living room listening to old 78's. |
|
Mom likes country, so that's all that was on in the car, so I recall lots of Garth, Reba, Brooks and Dunn, etc.
Dad likes rock, and some of my fondest memories are of laying on the living room floor falling asleep with a pair of old Sony cans plugged into a Kenwood amplifier that was hooked to a Kenwood CD player (later a Pioneer five disc changer) listening to DOSTM, Hotel California, or The Long Run. My mind was fucking BLOWN at how awesome music could be. Can't ever repay pops for showing me a love of music that I'm passing to my children. |

It had 270,000 miles on it when I entered it in the demolition derby when I was 17. Drove it back to the shop afterwards. :-) Oh!!! Village People |
